Disney's TinkerBell —

One of the most familiar Disney characters is the adorable, "pixie" fairy TinkerBell, who introduces movies from the family of movies by Walt Disney Studios with a flutter of her wings and a wave of her wand.  My daughter has been asking for her very own recently released TinkerBell DVD . . . . Please, Please Pleaseeee. Learning my lesson from the purchase of Barbie and the Diamond Castle and even though she enjoyed the movie at a friend's house I thought we would see if it warranted ownership and would actually get watched in our home by starting with a rental

Walt Disney Studio's TinkerBell DVD includes the full length feature presentation of 78 minutes, and Bonus Features of Pixie Hollow (where fairies live). Bonus features include:

  • Tinker Trainer DVD/CDRom Activity
  • Magical Guide to Pixie Hollow
  • Ever Wonder-Discover How Fairies put the Wonder in Natural Wonders
  • Creating Pixie Hollow
  • And the music video by Selena Gomez "Fly to Your Heart"

The TinkerBell DVD is a participating title in the Disney Movie Rewards Program and was awarded the Heartland Truly Moving Picture Award.  Artists featured in the film include Angelica Houston, Raven-Symone (Cheetah Girls and That's So Raven), Lucy Liu (Charlies Angels just to name 2) and America Ferrara (Ugly Betty) and Jesse McCartney (teenage heart throb and singer).

Storyline for Walt Disney Studio's TinkerBell DVD:  Every fairy is created by the giggle of a baby. The baby's giggle floats through the air to Pixie Hollow, where fairies live and create the wonder of nature and most especially Spring.  Each Fairy has a talent, which is discovered upon their arrival.  The fairies live and work in groups according to their talent, causing a sort of caste system.  Tinker Bell, as her name indicates is a tinker fairy, someone who creates inventions to make the work and lives of the other fairies easier and better.  But TinkerBell gets off to a rough start with every invention going wrong. Thinking she doesn't belong she tries disastrously to become a different fairy with a different talent.  Her efforts, with some help from a "mean girl" fairy named SilverMist end in the destruction of all their efforts to create Spring.  Now, spring will never happen! But TinkerBell happens upon the "Lost Things" things from the real world that end up broken and unused in Pixie Hollow.  With these "lost things" that the fairy Mary (and her "boss") thinks are trash, TinkerBell begins her journey to create inventions that will work.

Does Spring come?  Do the fairies create all the wonders of nature with TinkerBell's inventions? Do they learn to work together?  Well, it's a Disney movie, so I think we can all guess pretty much the ending.

All of Tinker's adventures are long before the introduction of Peter Pan and the Lost Boys, however we do get a peek of TinkerBell visiting Wendy's window.

My Viewpoint:  Walt Disney Studio's TinkerBell DVD was beautifully drawn, created and animated.  The storyline was typical "new" Disney -- with learning how to accept yourself for who and what you are and realizing that you are important.  I didn't find the movie all that entertaining, but the girls have enjoyed it several times.  Surprisingly though, their favorite part of this movie is the music video with Selena Gomez, Fly to Your Heart.  It features Selena singing and dancing, with a combination of the background of natural garden scene and the incorporation of the animated Pixie Fairies. To be honest they watched is 10 times singing and dancing -- saying "Again, again" Pleeasssseee before I finally had to put a stop to it. When mom knows the words to the song, it's time to turn it off.  But at least they were singing and dancing and not just watching "TV."

Overall, it is good enough watch, but I am glad we didn't pay to see it in the theater.  It seems that parts are missing to gain the attention of the adult audience also, which Walt Disney Studio's has done several times in other movies such as Shrek, Toy Stoy and Cars -- even adults enjoy many of the Disney pictures!  Just not this one.  But the girls enjoy it, so we will keep it around.

I was so glad that I didn't buy it! ABC Family had it on television Sat. night. I DVR'd it. While we can't take it in the car, and I don't have the fun music video now, this should tide them over until they get one -- maybe even from Santa.

Nice review. I haven't caught this one yet ;)

Good luck on being very creative with that one. Can you imagine your daughter asking you "why" Santa brought her something she already has or that she has already seen.

Everyone loves getting my name for the Christmas Eve and Christmas Day wishlist drawing because I am so easy to buy for. We have a $50 limit each day and I usually give them DVD titles, board games, or earrings. This year I am also adding books by Jodi Picoult--woo who! At $6-9 a pop I might get a good bit for my collection.

Well good for you! I saw awlafon also has her own copy now too! Now my only problem is I have to find a way to return the rental without her noticing --- and then find a great sale on the DVD and try to save it for Christmas present time ~~~ maybe they could add me to their list LOL

Wondered about this one. Straight to DVD often means they didn't think enough of if to release it in theaters. Great review!

Tinkerbell is back--I'm looking at her ;+)

Last night I went to my best friend's house for their monthly birthday supper and I am the "child magnet", the one who all the children gravitate to. So, I always take movies that I think may be new to them. I took the 2003 version of Peter Pan and while we were watching I began sharing your review of Peter Pan. After I finished three people wrote the movie down to get as Christmas presents for daughters and/or granddaughters. I "think" I may have been included in one of those lists too ;+)

Thanks again for sharing! ~Gigi

As an adult I love watching Disney films. I too am a kid at heart :) And... Tinker Bell. I would have loved to see a good flick on her, but I'll probably skip this one.

BTW: I laughed when you said, "When mom knows the words to the song, it's time to turn it off."

Thanks, great review.
