We have stayed at Disney's Port Orleans Riverside resort twice and look forward to many more stays. We travel to Orlando 4-5 times a year and even when we are not staying at POR we try to make a point to at least visit our favorite resort.
The Alligator Bayou rooms are rustic yet beautiful and a great value for a family with 3 children as one small child can sleep on the trundle bed and you can have 5 in one room. Magnolia Bend rooms have all the grace and charm of an old southern mansion.
My son loves to go pole fishing on Ol' Man Island. My husband can take him fishing in the morning while my daughter and I are finishing getting ready to go to the parks.
Even counter service dinning seems special when you can sit at a table near the window to gaze out at the water wheel for the "mill".
The resort is rather spread out but I try to get rooms that are not too far of a walk. Still, I really don't mind the walk back to our rooms at the end of a long day. All of the pathways are such a beautiful walk. Sometimes you are even passed by a horsedrawn carriage.
I guess my last point I could make about POR would be about the boats. They have a nice marina where you can rent boats. We really enjoy taking the transportation boat to Downtown Disney though. It may not be the speediest way to get there but it sure is relaxing.
