I just saw the re-release at the El Capitan in Hollywood, and a friend purchased the DVD for me.  I remember seeing this when I was a little kid, and loving it.  I felt haunted, however, by Mowgli leaving the jungle and following the little girl without saying goodbye to Baloo.

The animation is beautiful.  They don't have certain details like the present day Disney films, but that is what gives it a wonderful nostalgic feeling.  I am always amazed by the fact that the animators hand painted every cell.

The voiceover work is excellent.  The voices for all the main characters are so rich and defined, and the acting is very good.  Back then they didn't use Hollywood big shots to do voiceovers all the time like they do today, which I find quite annoying and uninspired.  These voiceover actors knew their craft and had rich character in their tones.  The baby elephant has the cutest voice!  Did you know he is played by Ron Howard's brother, Clint?

My kids are 4 and they couldn't figure out if the snake was good or bad because they don't understand sarcasm.  But they got everything else and have been singing "The Bare Necessities" ever since.
