The All Star Movie Resort was the first hotel that my family and I stayed in on our first trip to Disney World. I was worried before we arrived about how this hotel would be since it is the cheapest that Disney has to offer. But upon arrival, I realized that all my worries for nothing.
When I made the reservations, I requested a certain building that was closest to the food court and bus lines. This makes it easier and faster to get out in the morning and makes the walk not so long when arriving back at the end of the day. I also requested a refrigerator in the room due to my daughter's medication needing to be refrigerated. When we arrived to check in, there was no problem of being assigned to the wrong building and the refrigerator was already in the room and cold. Check in was a breeze, even though the line was a little long(to be expected since we went at Christmas and this is the busiest time of year).
On the way to the room, you see enormous characters from the Disney movies everywhere and the buildings are dedicated to different movie themes such as Toy Story, 101 Dalmations, Herbie the Love Bug and others. For the younger kids, it is a magical experience to see your favorite movies portrayed bigger than life.
When we arrived to the room and opened the door, the kids and I were absolutely pleased. There were two double beds, TV, a dresser, small table, two chairs, ironing board, iron, in-room safe, and bathroom. The room and beds were decorated according to what theme building you are in(ours was 101 Dalmation themed). Some people might find the room size small, but as little as we were going to be in the room, it was perfect.
Room service was great and when I made a special request for sheets that were washed in a certain washing powder due to allergies, they were absolutely accomodating.
The food court is great but I do have to admit that the prices are steep. But this is the case in all of Disney when eating. There are plenty of food choices so that everyone should be able to find something that they like and you can use the Disney Dining Plan here if that was part of your package.
There is a store in the main building that contains tons of Disney memorabilia but also contains alot more. Such as medicine, sunscreen, food, drinks(including alcohol), books and magazines. Things are overpriced, but the convenience of not having to drive off property helps take this in stride.
There were two pools and there are lifeguards at both. The main pool is a little bigger than the other but even in December the water was plenty warm to have a good time in the water.
The price for the hotel might seem a little steep for some because of the room size but for all the benefits of staying on Disney property, I would say well worth it. When you stay in a Disney Resort, you get free bus transportation to and from the parks. This alone is an excellent benefit but then you consider that you can get into the parks one hour early in the mornings and four hours later at night if you are a Disney Resort Guest, then you need to absolutely stay here. When you're deciding on your hotel, just remember to think about how much time you are really going to be in your room. The price and convenience of the Disney All-Star Movie Resort should be enough to convince anyone that the stay is worth your money.
