Our family has enjoyed many Disney Pixar movies but reading books is “stories” higher on my value list than watching television. However, I have found that I can often use beloved movies and characters to get my four year old excited about reading books. The Disney Pixar Storybook Collection is one such book. The cover features Mr. Incredible, one-eyed Mike from Monsters Inc. Lightning McQueen and Mater from Cars and Buzz Lightyear from Toy Story so we knew this would be a hit with our own little always racing super hero.

What I like about the stories in The Disney Pixar Storybook Collection is that they include the characters and themes from the respective movies but most of them are not recaps of the movies. They are short stories that may have taken place sometime during or after the movie time frame.

For example, in the Finding Nemo “Who’s In Charge?” story, Marlin lets Dory baby-sit Nemo while he runs errands and tells her all the things that Nemo needs to get done while he’s gone. If you remember that Dory has a short-term memory problem, then you can see where this one is going. Luckily Nemo does remember his lists and gets everything done. So it really is a cute story that reinforces responsibility.

One of my kids’ favorites is A Bug’s Life “The Not-So-Perfect Picnic.” Sisters Atta and Dot have really not been getting along but when they go on an adventure with the friend Flik and run into trouble the two really learn to appreciate their differences.

There are 21 stories in The Disney Pixar Storybook Collection and each story has about ten written pages and several pages of excellent illustrations you’d expect form Disney Pixar artist. I like to take this one on trips so that we have lots of bedtime stories that both the four and nine year old will enjoy without having to pack two dozen books.

One con to this book is that it gets really heavy for the reader holding it up. I usually prop it up on some pillows. On the plus side though, the print is really large for Mom’s tired eyes.

My Viewpoint:

The Disney Pixar Storybook Collection is a great collection of 21 stories featuring beloved characters from Disney Pixar movies. I like that these stories aren’t just recaps of the movies but are cute, original stories that also have kid friendly morals to each story. As a bonus, there are 200 Disney Pixar character stickers in the back. If you want to little movie lovers reading, I highly recommend The Disney Pixar Storybook Collection.

This one would definitely be a winner in my house, after I find a way to make them share it! Their favorite Disney movies, new stories and stickers. Nice discovery.
