There's just something about Disney movies that sets them apart from other family movies. There's something very distinctive about them that makes them more endearing, makes kids watch them endlessly, and makes adults not mind seeing them several times over. It was actually quite difficult to keep this list to just ten, surprisingly enough, and I also had more older Disney movies included than I figured I would.

1. The Lion King. I think this one will always be the the most special to me. As a new mom, it was the first one that my son watched over and over. I think I memorized all the songs and key lines before he did. It had everything you want from a good Disney movie with family values, adventure, and romance. It's also the best way to explain to kids about the circle of life. I've actually gone back to this movie when trying to explain life and death.

2. Aladdin. We all know that Robin Williams playing the genie really helped this movie out. I would have liked it, but not nearly as much without his comedy thrown in. I liked this one so much I dressed my son up as Aladdin and our dog up as Abu for Halloween when my son was 2. (The dog was 9)

3. 101 Dalmations. Having always been a dog lover, I liked this movie so much I made it the theme of the nursery for both of my kids. I had my brother-in-law hand paint Dalmations that looked like Walt himself did the work. Who doesn't love to hate Cruella DeVille and fall in love with those adorable puppies?

4. A Goofy Movie. I would have never thought I would even like this movie, nor that I would rate it so high. However, it has such great family values in it. I think sometimes I was more excited to watch this movie than my kids were. It's kind of scary to think of Goofy reproducing; however, he's a single father in this movie and feels he's growing apart from his son, and takes him across county on a vacation to try and reconnect. It's very sophisticated for Goofy!

5. Cinderella. Isn't this every young girl's dream? Didn't we all want to be rescued by a fairy godmother? I'd also love to have some help with the housework, even if it has to come from mice. I think I could even deal with the evil stepsisters. But Prince Charming I do think would be irritating.

6. Toy Story. This is yet another one that my son used to watch over and over, and another one that I secretly didn't mind watching. Like Lion King, I know all the songs by heart, and many of the lines as well. It certainly made us all look at toys quite differently. I think we've all known a Sid in our lives, too, kind of like the freckled kid with the frown from the Fisher Price Little People.

7. Wall-E. It's the newest one on the list, but I think it will be just as endearing in years to come. It's also a great warning of what could happen to this world we live in if we're not more careful. Somehow this machine is more charming than many people.

8. Mulan. Eddie Murphy's comedy helps make this film about a young girl growing up in Asia. In addition, I think this movie helps educate kids about the different culture over in Asia, the different value system they have, with the daughter lopping off her hair and pretending to be a son, just to save her ill father from having to go fight.

9. Lady and the Tramp.
Again, as a dog lover, this was always a favorite of mine. It's what I think of every time I eat spaghetti, thinking of the two dogs sharing their spaghetti and meeting in the middle impishly. Tramp being a proud daddy at the end shows that everyone can be reformed!

10. The Little Mermaid. Again, it has classic music, with great songs like Under the Sea and Kiss the Girl. A lot of the fun for me, too, was in the beginning with the funny uses Ariel assumes for the items she finds in the shipwreck, like assuming a fork is to comb your hair. While I dressed my son as Aladdin, I dressed my daughter as Ariel, complete with a shell bra.

I can't wait till Ariel doesn't scare the girls anymore.
