I would not recommend the Disney Movie Club to anyone.  I am the mother of two girls who love the Disney princesses, so I joined hoping to save money replacing all of our VHS movies with DVDs.  At the time I was unaware of their "vault" practice, so I was only able to find 2 of the movies I was looking for.

I preferred to respond to the club mailings online and got into the habit of throwing away the paper catalogs without even opening the envelopes.  However, after I had purchased a few titles and began to wonder how much of my commitment I had fulfilled, I discovered that there is no record of that information on the web site.  In the FAQ, it says that you can find out how many purchases you still need to make by looking on the paper Featured Selection reply card. This simple information that I needed was, ironically, less accessible me as an internet user.

Once I fulfilled my commitment, I felt I had to jump through hoops to cancel my membership.  There is no way to contact customer service directly through the web site.  The FAQ referred me to their toll-free customer service number.  When I called that number, the automated system could never find a record of my membership number and therefore would not connect me with a live representative.  It instead instructed me to refer to the web site.  Customers who do not know their member number or who call using a rotary phone are directed to call a long distance number.  When I finally gave in and called this number, the agent who answered had no trouble finding my account with the membership number I gave him.

I consider the Disney Movie Club's business practices to be at best highly inefficient and off-putting.  At worst, they are deceptive and even predatory.  The enrollment offer is not worth the frustration and the feeling of being taken advantage of.

This person admits that she "got into the habit of throwing away the paper catalogs without even opening the envelopes." Adults who review correspondence from the DMC do not run into these problems.
