Disney Magic Towels are washclothes that are packaged very tightly with plastic around them. After removing the outer plastic covering, just place the washcloth in water and watch it slowly open into a washcloth with a beautiful design.

We actually bought several of these for $1/each at the Dollar Tree. I thought they might be a good reward for good behavior, and my girls really enjoy pretty pictures on washcloths. I purchased:

  • High School Musical for the 7-year-old, who was not particularly impressed because the package had a picture with lots of kids but the washcloth did not.
  • Cinderella for the 5-year-old, who was disappointed because hers had two cut places in it.
  • Winnie the Pooh for the 23-month-old, who was thrilled and wanted to carry it everywhere for quite a while.

My Viewpoint:

I think these Disney Magic Towels are a cute idea and have pretty designs, but two out of three daughters were disappointed with them. My kids enjoyed watching their washcloths unfold in the water. Actually, they couldn't wait for them to unfold on their own and ended up poking them until they opened. The downside for me was the disappointment for two of the three girls after they could see their washcloths.

I think the picture on the washcloth should match the picture on the packaging, especially since you cannot see the actual washcloth when you purchase it. I can see why the 7-year-old would think hers would have a matching picture when the others looked more like the packaging. Also, it is a shame that the cuts in the Cinderella washcloth weren't caught before it left the manufacturing plant.

My last suggestion for this product would be to call it a Magic Washcloth rather than a towel. I always think of a towel as something MUCH larger than a washcloth and I'd hate to think if someone were to purchase this thinking that it would turn into a towel--now that would be magic!

I didn't even think to mention about them not being very soft--you are right. My husband took the Cinerella one back and opened up several in the store (in front of the cashier) until he found one that didn't have cuts on it and then bought that one and we've used these for several months. I like using something other than candy or food for a reward, but I don't like to buy a lot of junky toys, so rewards like this are practical and fun if they aren't messed up.

I thought "towel" was a strange name too--thanks for reading!

My oldest son has one of these, a Cars one. It has actually lasted quite a while, I'm surprised (around 2 years). They're definitely not the softest, but kids like them and they're only $1.

These sound cute for younger kids. Wonder why they call it a towel though? Hmm.

Thanks. Maybe my reviews might help someone else from making a purchase for which they aren't happy.

Very nice review. Too bad the product isn't as nice.
