I have always been a music lover, so when my son came along, I knew I wanted lots of music choices for him. Knowing that music also tames the savage beast... I mean baby, friends and family gifted us with several CD choices. When Little Man was an infant as I had a favorite CD in constant play. But once that one became too scratched to use, we turned to Disney Lullaby and Goodnight. Still at three years old music is a very important part of his life and we couldn't enjoy this Disney CD anymore.
Lull Me... Don't Bore Me
As the name implies, this CD is instrumental and designed for night time with it's relaxing songs. Though most people think of a lullaby CD as boring or elevator-ish (which is probably why we didn't pull this out right away), I don't find this one to be too bad. Though the songs are Instrumentals of favorite Disney songs (including Somewhere Over the Rainbow and Puff the Magic Dragon for example), there is a good mixture of instrumental classical sound and the Disney theme that comes out. All of the songs are low key and relaxing which is hard to say about other baby CD's available.
A Lover of the Lullaby
My son is pretty particular about things in general, but especially anything having to do with his night time routine. We had to switch from the previous night-time CD due to scratches and I really wondered how he would accept anything besides his favored music. The Disney Lullaby and Goodnight CD fit right in for him. During any nap time or bed time he MUST have music and this is definitely the one that does it for him.
As for mommy's opinion, the music is done well and is an interesting mixture of instrumental and Disney favorites. Some tracks have two corresponding songs (not necessarily from the same show) that go back and forth and others only a single song. There are a couple of places where the music actually sounds a little dreary, but that also attributes to the low-key nature. The thing that does it for me is these are not songs that get stuck in my head... which is a good thing. When you're listening to a particular CD at least twice per day, it is very easy to get that stuck in your mind. This isn't too bad unless it's 3:00 am and you really want to go to sleep.
Although our copy of the Disney Lullaby and Goodnight is several years old, I have still seen it available through both Target and Towar records. This Lullaby and Goodnight is not to be confused with the Disney Baby's Lullaby CD that is also out though. Make sure you look for the cute sleeping baby on the cover.
