Dish network Review Summary

The community is somewhat divided on the Dish Network satellite service. Most reviewers praised the service; one stated that "Dish Network is by far better than cable,” while another person said of Dish Network: “I guess it’s better than cable, but not by much.” Dish Network is a satellite provider that offers a plethora of channels, with good reception, HD channels, excellent and reliable receivers, and good customer relations, but the service can be costly over time. When we moved into our newly built home some five years ago, traditional (is that what it is now?) cable was not available in our sub-development, so we had to choose an alternate route to televisionland.  Up to this point I had not heard a lot about satellite television, but what I had heard… read full review »

Ask anyone that knows me and they will tell you I really do my research to get the best deal. When cable prices kept getting higher and higher, I looked at many satellite companies. I decided on Dish Network, they gave me a few special deals at the time: ten dollars off per month for 10 months and… read full review »

I've been a happy Dish Network customer for 6 years and then we upgraded to the DVR. It took months to get the rebate to our account - we were told we hadn't provided the proper information when it was sent in, which was a lie. Then the DVR's hard drive became corrupted, losing all our saved shows. We went through the process to fix it and then it would do it again. We called and found out the charge was going to be $99 for a service call. I told them I had a service plan that gave me free service and THEN I was told that with the equipment upgrade that was no longer offered. I explained I… read full review »

When I signed up for Satelite service from Dish I didn't consider the fact that #1 I live on the Oregon Coast, and the wind and rain make for poor reception.  #2 they don't have NFL ticket like DirectTv does.  I am happy with the DVR service.  Boy does that save a lot of time.  But when my contract is fulfilled I will no longer… read full review »

We have had dish for about 5 years now.. and have moved about 5 times (military) .. At first it was great. but in the last year it has gone to crap!We were told several times we would not be charged the $99 dish mover  .. we tell them we are moving.. and "it will be a charge of $99" is what we were told.so we just canceled in my husbadns name and turned it on in my moms name... — we cancelled but they didn't disconnect service for 3 months! even though they had received the DVR box back and everything. they sent a bill , I called and said hey you screwed up send me… read full review »

Okay, here goes.  We have had the dish network for probably close to 7 or 8 years, we got it when the kids were all home.  At the time we got it we paid around 19.95 a month for it.  As time went by and the kids grew up we decided to add hbo and starz movie channels.  They used to give you a free movie once in awhile, but that stopped 2 years ago.  We are up to paying 73.00 a month now with little side benefits.  I don't recomend this dish at all.  I will say one thing for it, the receiver has lasted us a long time.  I added a receiver in my room and… read full review »

After reviewing all other options, we made the decision to use Dish again because of the DVR service.  We use that more than any other device in our home.  It is half the price of our cable companies DVR service, and you get double the hours.  — At the time of sign up, I paid for two months of service upfront and expected a bill this month.  I did not receive a bill, however my service was cut off today because I was 31 days late.  I had the attitude it was possible that I had misunderstood or had a bill buried somewhere so I… read full review »

We switched from DTV earlier this year and haven't regretted it yet.  With all the rate raises they had and their constant dropping of channels from the basic package, it wasn't worth the money we were spending every month on dish, especially since they installed our dish incorrectly and it would go out completely with the lightest of rain.  DTV also never carried any of our local channels, and put the major networks (ABC, NBC, Fox, and CBS) on premium package. — — Dish Network has a great basic package, offered us free DVR with signup, and gave us a two tv setup so… read full review »

I  was a loyal customer with Dish Network for many years until the add on costs turned me and them off. —     I tried to switch programming to improve my value and entertainment enrichment.  I found that HBO & Showtime really couldn't get their act together to show new movies @ times convenient to view the movies.  Try showing your new content on the weekends and on the beginning of an hour.  —     They have tried to entice me back with offers that still are way too expensive once all their  extra charges are… read full review »

I have had Dish for a while now. It is okay, but not the greatest. The equipment can't be changed if there are new ones in the market. They do not offer extra stuff after you signed with them. Usually new customers get the best stuff available and we, the old ones, are left with the out-of-style equipment. I know, it used to be new and shiny, but once in a while it would be great to hear a "guess what?" from Dish and tell me that I am getting an update on equipment for being loyal for say, 2 years now! Long shot, but who knows? — In the long run, Dish is good. Good reception, good… read full review »

Beware of Dish network.  I thought I would love it since it is supposed to be cheaper than cable, but I hate it!  First off, they did not tell me there would be a 5 dollar a month charge if I could not hook the network up to a phone line (they waited until the first bill to notify me).  Then, my bill has been wrong each month for four months.  I was supposed to get a discounted rate that I have yet to get.  They say it takes several months for the discount, when I was told that I would see the discount on the first months bill.  This month they charged me… read full review »

I started subscribing to dish network over a year ago after being with cable for all my life. I will never go back to cable unless I get completely screwed over by dish. The picture is excellent, I have the top 120 package and it is more than enough channels. I also have their DVR, which when it was installed the guy kept rambling on about how good it was and I was thinking well obviously he is just promoting his product, but this thing is awesome. You can schedule it to record only new episodes of shows or only re-runs or all. It is a very smart piece of equipment and I recommend this to… read full review »

I have been a customer of dishnetwork for about 3 months.  Customer-no-service is a 1 hour wait.  Company is definitely not customer service oriented.  I already regret dealing with this company.  Since the 18 month agreement I signed is completely one sided, I am stuck with them for 15 more months.  They have shown me they feel NO obligations under the agreement to provide service as advertised. — We were hoping to improve our TV viewing over cable.  Cable was much better than dishnetwork.com  The one positive is that we now watch much less TV. —… read full review »

I have been using Dish Network for one year for subscription of Great Wall Package. It is pretty good: quality is good if no serious storm or snow around. Dish is comparably smaller than what I got before, and can be comfortably put on the foyer of second level of my house to avoid roof work. Ithink it is also because that we have open area at the right angle of the dish to Satelite.   I am waiting for the HD signal with 720 P coming even though it might not be quick due to the bandwidth and regulation. … read full review »

I decided to give Dish Network a try do to their amazing advertisement. I was very upset and angry at the fact that I was almost scammed. Dish Network gets your credit card number under the pretense that they have to run a credit check. They then proceed to sign you up for a monthly credit check service which costs $15.00 dollars a month. They also fail to mention that you are signing a two year contract and that if you cancel for any reason, you will be billed for a full 24 months. Don't go with Dish unless you want to loose a lot of… read full review »
