We had Dish Network for over 5 years. We had a couple different DVR receivers over that time. For the most part they worked great and had no problems. I liked their dual channel DVR that could be sent to another TV - no additional fee. We don't watch TV that often on the other set, so paying DTV's fee for another receiver adds to their price. However, one of the major reasons for switching was their poor customer service, no incentives for keeping long term customers, and additional fees for not having your phone (landline) connected to the receiver at all times. Using VOIP, it worked most of the time, untill they updated the firmware. I fought this several times, and then it started working again... till the next update. Since I was the "only one who had this problem" it must be something in my setup. I hadn't changed anything in my house in years... No matter how calmly I tried to explain this, they wouldn't/couldn't understand the problem. And started charging the extra fee for not being connected.

I think I still prefer the way DishDVR works over DirecTVs... but both work well.

However, if Dish Network doesn't change their landline policy, I am not sure if I would go back or not. There are a lot of people on Cell Phone only... with this trend, I believe that we as former and future customers need to work on Dish Network to eliminate that fee.

Living in a smaller town you do have fewer choices. We've been with Both Dish and now DirecTV. Both seem to offer more for the new customer and nothing to keep their current customers happy and content. At this rate, it might be worthwhile to switch every couple years between the two companies to get the best deals.
