Okay, here goes.  We have had the dish network for probably close to 7 or 8 years, we got it when the kids were all home.  At the time we got it we paid around 19.95 a month for it.  As time went by and the kids grew up we decided to add hbo and starz movie channels.  They used to give you a free movie once in awhile, but that stopped 2 years ago.  We are up to paying 73.00 a month now with little side benefits.  I don't recomend this dish at all.  I will say one thing for it, the receiver has lasted us a long time.  I added a receiver in my room and pay 5.00 more a month for it.  Most people get a receiver for free for up to 4 rooms.  I had to pay $200.00 for my receiver because I didn't get it with the original deal which I think is one of the biggest rip offs ever.  We pay every month on time for years and they charge us $200.00 for something everyone else gets for free,  Big big rip off.  Would recomend to all of you to buy all your receivers at once or you will have to pay later.  I would just subscribe to regular cable if we had it in the country where we live.  Big negative dish network.

We just changed from Dish to Direct and for the same reasons you stated. Cheap going in but they get you up there with add ons. Like you said get all the promotions on start up as they will cost more later.
