When my cable bill started to rise, I decided to look into other options. I decided to go with Dish Network because their initial startup costs were cheaper than DirecTV and at the time the channel lineups in comparison of the two were basically the same. While I'll admit that I still pay less with Dish Network than I was with Comcast Cable, the customer service and billing practices are almost non-existent with Dish Network. The package I signed up for is America's Top 200 with Showtime. According to the sales rep, I was supposed to be paying approximately $80-90 for the first 10 months and the go up to approximately $103 per month thereafter for the next 4 months. After that, my bill would be approximately $113 with a price guarantee for 2 years (my rate was locked in for 2 years). Around 2 months following the start of my service, my wife and I decided to build a house. I called Dish Network and asked if they had any programs to put off my service during the 6 months it would take for the house to be built. I was told yes, it was called Dish Pause. So I opted to do that, after being told there were no ramifications in doing so. Upon putting my service back to active, I was told that all of my rebates had been forfeit by using the Dish Pause program. When I told the service rep that I was told there were no ramifications, he said sorry, there's nothing he can do. I was told the same by his supervisor as well as his supoervisor's supervisor. I opened a case with the Better Business Bureau stating Dish Networks Terms and conditions as well as the names of the customer service reps I spoke to. DIsh Network called me the next day (less than 12 hours after I opened the case) to tell me that a mistake had been made and that wasn't their policy. The rep then told me my rebates were being reinstated and even sent me a letter stating the same. Got my bill the next month, no rebates, full price rate. Called Dish Network to inquire why, they stated there was no mention anywhere they could see that the rebates had been reinstated. I faxed them the letter I received, from them and was told once again that my rebates would be reinstated. I was told what my bill was with the rebates reinstated and was assured that it was taken care of. Got my bill the next month, not only were there no rebates, there were late fees due to me paying less than what the original bill stated. Called them back again, went through the same process, got the same answer. Bill came the following month, the same thing all over again. Opened another case with the BBB, got a call the next day. Went through the whole deal again, was told verbally and in another letter that the issue was resolved. Doesn't really matter to me at this point whether it is or not, I will not be renewing with Dish Network again after my contract is up. The awful experience that I've gone through with them plus the outages every time the weather is slightly off are worth paying the extra $10-15 a month to have cable.
