The community is somewhat divided on the Dish Network satellite service. Most reviewers praised the service; one stated that "Dish Network is by far better than cable,” while another person said of Dish Network: “I guess it’s better than cable, but not by much.” Dish Network is a satellite provider that offers a plethora of channels, with good reception, HD channels, excellent and reliable receivers, and good customer relations, but the service can be costly over time. When we moved into our newly built home some five years ago, traditional (is that what it is now?) cable was not available in our sub-development, so we had to choose an alternate route to televisionland.  Up to this point I had not heard a lot about satellite television, but what I had heard did not...

Ask anyone that knows me and they will tell you I really do my research to get the best deal. When cable prices kept getting higher and higher, I looked at many satellite companies. I decided on Dish Network, they gave me a few special deals at the time: ten dollars off per month for 10 months and free...

I've been a happy Dish Network customer for 6 years and then we upgraded to the DVR. It took months to get the rebate to our account - we were told we hadn't provided the proper information when it was sent in, which was a lie. Then the DVR's hard drive became corrupted, losing all our saved shows. We went through the process to fix it and then it would do it again. We called and found out the charge was going to be $99 for a service call. I told them I had a service plan that gave me free service and THEN I was told that with the equipment upgrade that was no longer offered. I explained I was... read full review »

Our experience with Dish Network has been one of constantly having to call and speak with people at Dish.  When there is a problem a screen flashes on the tv telling you that Dish is having a problem and not to call them.  After several days of having the same screen flash on of course we called.  They now tell us that we did not purchase the package that includes repairs---what the screen tells us it is their problem and not even to call.  I will not bore you with the series of calls, but they will admit to nothing.  Finally a repair person comes and spends 3 hours fixing the problem.  The...

When I signed up for Satelite service from Dish I didn't consider the fact that #1 I live on the Oregon Coast, and the wind and rain make for poor reception.  #2 they don't have NFL ticket like DirectTv does.  I am happy with the DVR service.  Boy does that save a lot of time.  But when my contract is fulfilled I will no longer subscribe.

Dishnetwork does not care about what the customer wants. The top 100 programming package has no movie channels such as Turner Classic Movies,Fox Movie Channel or American Movie Classics, neither do they have the NFL network.Instead they have 16 shopping channels.Whoever puts their programming packages together doesn't know what they are doing.Do they really believe people would rather have 16 shopping channels instead of movie channels or the NFL network? The catch is they put those channels on the top 200 to make you pay more money. When you email DISH they cannot answer your question about...

Be very, very careful about who you call to come set up your Dish Network.  There are way too many scammers out there.  My husband called a company and they charged us $80 in fees that Dish Network claims shouldn't have been charged and they're not going to help us get those fees back.  The company refuses to return our calls.

Their pricing is very confusing.  Everything is itemized and when you first sign up, they offer a lot of discounts.  Each discount is itemized.  For example, you can sign up for Dish Network HD and get it at this price for 6 months.  What they don't tell you is that...

We were happy with dish network for awhile, but they and their DVR equipment let us down. We had dish netowrk wuth a DVR for 4 years. About one and half years ago our dish and DVR locked up for about 2 hours as dish network was sending a software update and when it finally responded again, the DVR was blank; all the programs that we had recorded wre deleted. When we called dish network they said that it was an equipment problem and they they would send a new DVR. They told us that their update was not the cause of our DVR getting wiped. We accepted that explanation at the time. Just a few weeks...

I decided to give Dish Network a try do to their amazing advertisement. I was very upset and angry at the fact that I was almost scammed. Dish Network gets your credit card number under the pretense that they have to run a credit check. They then proceed to sign you up for a monthly credit check service which costs $15.00 dollars a month. They also fail to mention that you are signing a two year contract and that if you cancel for any reason, you will be billed for a full 24 months. Don't go with Dish unless you want to loose a lot of money...

Thanks to the 177 souls who read that first "review". I still stand by what I wrote, the customer service for Dish Network isnt all that great. Haveing said that I do like the DVR, HD box. Its Vip722. It is nice to record one show and watch another. I also like the fact that you can rewind "live tv", or pause etc. This works best only if you havent changed the channel of the show you are watching, so channel surfing isnt a good idea if you want to use this feature.  Recording is very easy although I have had to pay attention to those buttons.

Play back is good for the DVR as...

I have been with Dish Network for the past 7 years and they have always been great but something has changed with this company.Dish Network has terrible service! I recently had a DVR receiver go bad. After explaining the symptoms to Dish they agreed to send a replacement unit,  The second receiver I received didn't work at all. Apparently I didn't return the old one to Dish network fast enough so they billed $300 to my credit card account, I called Dish Networks customer service dept.. I spent many many hours on the phone a good chunk on hold. Got hung up on innumerable times it appears they...

All Dish cares about is making money and could care less about what the customer wants.Just look at their programming packages. On the family package there are no movie channels and no ESPN or NFL network.Evidently Dish thinks families do not watch movies or watch sports. On the top 100 there are also no movie channels offered neither is there the NFL network.Dish must think people would rather watch the Pentagon channel,NASA channel,C SPAN 2,the University of Arizona and California channels and 16 shopping channels instead of movies or the NFL network. The catch is they are well aware...

We switched from DTV earlier this year and haven't regretted it yet.  With all the rate raises they had and their constant dropping of channels from the basic package, it wasn't worth the money we were spending every month on dish, especially since they installed our dish incorrectly and it would go out completely with the lightest of rain.  DTV also never carried any of our local channels, and put the major networks (ABC, NBC, Fox, and CBS) on premium package.

Dish Network has a great basic package, offered us free DVR with signup, and gave us a two tv setup so that both tv's could be hooked...

I signed up for DISH NETWORK's service verbally agreeing to a 12 month contract during which time they were to provide the service for which I signed up for. From the beginning I have never received the channels I am paying for. In the past 10 months technicians have been out several times to correct the problems we are having as the signal is not strong enough. They have said there is nothing more that they can do. Techs have stated on two separate occasions that they should have never installed the equipment due to trees on the property blocking the signal.

I am still ony getting about 1/4 of...
