I bought this** Discovery Kids Text Messenger **for my niece, who was 12 years old at the time. She lives about 20 minutes away and I thought maybe, just maybe, it would be cute for her and I to be able to text each other with these. I was wrong. My son read the instructions and it said: - **300 foot range** - Send and Receive Texts between messages. - Databank organizer Holds email addresses, Phone Numbers, Addresses and Memos - Calculator Function - Built-in Worldwide Clock - Built-in Security code to Protect Private Data - LCD Display with Backlight - Requires 3 "AAA" Batteries for each (not included) The 300 foot range wouldn't work for us. So I gave her these to use with her friends or with one of her two sisters. I myself, couldn't figure out how to work the thing. It was a little too complicated for me. My brother in law eventually got it hooked up and ready to go. She played with the messaging but the other person had to be close enough to send a message back. She's enjoyed the databank organizer alot more then the texting. Guess she couldn't send a text far enough within range. I'm happy I had the chance to grab this for her, at the bargain price I've paid, but In my opinion, I would say these don't serve it's purpose and they're way over priced at twenty bucks a piece. They look like they're cheaply made and they wouldn't last a month! I would not recommend this to a friend!
