If high gas prices have you singing the blues, then consider the Discover Open Road Gas Card. This credit card offers a five percent rebate on gasoline purchases and this rebate money can be exchanged for gift cards to your favorite restaurant or other retailer. Discover Open Road Gas Card is “The Only Thing Good About High Gas Prices”, but there is one major flaw with this card, and this is indicated by the comment: “Great, IF You Spend Under $100 per Month on Gas”. Discover Gas Card continues to change its terms and the limit on the amount of gasoline that qualifies for a discount continues to shrink. This is why the opinions are mixed and why the overall consensus is that the Discover Open Road Gas Card is a good Credit Card provided you don’t drive very much.

When Discover (called me) and offered this card they told me I would get 5% rebate on all my gas and car charges like oil, tires etc. I ordered the card then found out I was only getting $5.00 rebate on $700.00 in charges. If you aren't a heavy gas user, the Discover - Open Road Gas Card can save you an extra 5-10 cents a gallon on gas. You get a 5% rebate on gas and card repair purchases, but this only applies to the first $100 spent each month, so its not as great if you spend a lot each month.

The nice thing about Discover Card rebates is that you can get them as cash as well as getting gift cards, etc. For some things like movie rentals, you can get up to double the value of your rebate.

The card has a 5% rebate, BUT it is only up to $100 in purchases per month = $5 monthly maximum.
If you realize that from the start, you have to remember to pull out the card just after your statement closes, use it for $100 in gas, then put it away until the next statement. If you do not drive much, you will be fine, otherwise it can be a hassle for just a few bucks.

This is a truly lousy card. Your rebates end after $100.00 per month or a total of $1200 per year. With gas prices as they are, you can only get rebates for about 1and a half tanks of gas per month. This is OK if you only go to the store and back, but worthless if you do much driving at all.

When I went to cancel my card the representative told be because of so many complaints the $60 limit per year was changed to $60 per month. That was NOT true!! The limit is $5.00 per month. Big deal.
