In this economy, who can afford to pay full price?  With the Discover Card cashback bonus card, you earn 1% of all purchases.  In addition, they offer a 5% cashback bonus in certain categories.  The categories change every 3 months.  This quarter you can earn 5% on Home & Fashion purchases.  Next quarter it's Gas & Hotel purchases.  The max you can earn with the 5% bonus is $20 a quarter.   If you exceed that, you still get the 1%.  If all this isn't enough, you can also go into their "shop discover" site.  There are some major stores in the program that offer anywhere from a 5% to 20% cashback bonus.

I like the cashback bonus better than other perks because there are no restrictions.  The bonus can be deducted from your balance due, or you can purchase gift cards that offer an additional incentive.  I use my card wherever it is accepted.  I recommend this card for anyone who has a low balance or who pays in full every month.  The interest rate can be somewhat higher than competitors, so shop around for a good rate if you carry a balance from month to month.
