Discover - Discover Card Review

I have had a Discover Card account for the past several years and have never found it necessary to dispute one of my charges.

We had a death in the family recently and I was looking for some information about obtaining a death certificate.  I went to the googled the county clerk and state and saw an ad for "Public Records Pro" and searched for my relatives name.  I was told there were two available records which matched my parameters. The site indicated there was a fee of $2.99 which I thought was reasonable.  Unfortunately I failed to read all of the fine print and found that the charge was a per month fee and would be charged for one year in advance.

Once the fee was paid I went back and neither record pertained to my search, in fact, the only matching parameter was the name.  The birthdates, date of death, state were not matched at all.

I contacted the company and they told me the charges were non-refundable.

I contacted Discover by phone and was instructed to write them about the dispute and they would contact me within six weeks.  The charge was removed from my account pending investigation.

They promptly contacted me by phone to further their investigation and in 18 days was issued a permanent refund.

The people whom I encountered were friendly, courteous, and most of all, professional.  Which makes me very glad that I had used my Discover Card for the charge.
