I was a very early adopter of the Discover Card, and was more and more pleased as it became more widely accepted. It is still an above-average card and company, as the card has no annual fee and quite good customer service. But the cash-back bonus has dwindled dramatically over the years. It used to have several tiers of bonus percentages based on your annual spending, and those have been reduced. (My two favorite cards pay the highest percentage from the first dollar of charges.) And Discover stopped paying ANY bonuses at Wal-Mart or Sam's. That made several other cards much more lucrative. One selling point of Discover is that they double your bonus amount if you redeem it for particular gift cards. While this makes the cash back amount more profitable for the customer, it locks you into a particular company to purchase from. And you have to keep up with a gift card, remember to use it, and not let it expire or incur dormancy fees. This is an okay card for those of us who pay off the balance each month, but there are better ones out there.
