A Great Offer — I got my Discover card when I was solicited to transfer a balance to them at 2.9% interest. The Discover Card is one I will never be without. I am quite thrifty and I love knowing I'm getting a good deal on something. My Discover pays me back in full - 1% back on ALL purchases, but also, 4 times a year they have additional categories that will return 5%. This month I am getting 5% back on my gas purchases (as well as other items too) - much needed with prices skyrocketing these days. One you've accumulated $20 in rebate money, it's time to use it. They have very slow process. I had a big bill and had paid it off and they still haven't taken it off my credit report as per their customer service rep. that I talked to. And this was over 3 years ago..I am still trying to get them to take care of it. It took them over a year to have it post as good and paid off on my credit report. Be AWARE that your credit card payment scales will change without any 30 day notice when ANY credit bureau FICO score changes without YOU being notified in a AMPLE / SUFFICIENT notification time BETWEEN statement periods... I have very good credit and could have basically have any card I want but the one I use 99.9% of the time is Discover. There are a few merchants who do not accept this card and they really should if they are interested in customer satisfaction. — One of the main pros of using this card is the cashback dollars you accrue. I've been a Discover card holder since 1994...In fact it was my first major card...I love the cashback bonus. They were the first to have this type of reward for the "average" card holder. My negative feelings just started recently in the last year. I got a new Motiva card and shortly after, I got a call about their credit protection program. I have a ton of credit card and have had a ton more. I have about 15 now, and have had about 50 in the past (because I am addicted to balance transfers, moving money back & forth between 0% APR intro rates). I never pay any interest and have never had any disputes with credit card companies, so I don't know how Discover Card reps are when they are trying to collect money from you. I have had Discover for over 10 years. It was my first credit card. I always pay my bill on time each month fully. I charge everything I can from gas, groceries, to ultities. You earn cash back and I then turn that into to gifts for others in the form of gift cards. Saves me bundles on Birthday and Chritmas. So they are paying me to use their card! The Discover Card offers 5% cash back on selected items which rotate every quarter. For these specific items, the card is great. Otherwise, you can receive better bonuses elsewhere. This card is best used in tandem with other cards by using it until the 5% bonus threshhold is maximized, then using other cards until the next quarter's bonus period begins. The normal cash back terms is not 1% but "up to 1%", which means you start at a tier of just .25%. Cashing in your reward dollars for giftcards is hassle-free and dependable. Discover is really good with making sure your card is being used by you...and only you. I took a road trip across the country, and all of a sudden my card wouldn't work at a gas station. I wasn't anywhere near my limit, so I called Discover. They put a hold on my account because it looked as though my card may have been stolen and used at a lot of places in a short period of time. Other than being caught off-guard, I was very pleased that they protect their customers like that. When I told them the situation, they were very expedient in getting my card working again. I have been with Discover practically since they started. I have moved several times and it has always been simple. They have an easy website and you can change your due date on it. I have gotten them to lower my interest rate a couple of times. The main problem with this card is that it still isn't accepted everywhere, so you still need to cary a mc or visa. This is especially true if you're traveling outside the US. My favorite feature is the cash back. You can also get gift certificates to a wide variety of stores, but I always take the cash. We've used them for 20+ years. The wide variety of cashback bonus offers are a definite plus. We used to redeem them for cash, but now mostly for restaurant and Blockbuster coupons...we haven't paid for a movie rental in years, and frequently enjoy free meals compliments of our cashback rewards. — They also call if they feel there might be a security or fraud issue with your card. I have been a loyal Discover Card user since high school and have recommended them to everyone I know. In addition to a flexible rewards system (gift cards from hundreds of merchants including double-cash back, actual cash back, carry forward indefinitely), they also have one of the finest customer service teams I've ever encountered. If you are a day late with a payment, they will reverse the interest and late fees without the customary "as a one-time courtesy...." hulabaloo.
