Dirty Dancing is my favorite film of all time. It came out when I was a teenager, and although watching the movie in the theater did not impress me(probably because it is harder to understand for the hearing-impaired), I was wowed by the video on the VCR. I watched it constantly. I made scrapbooks and even visited where the movie was filmed, Lake Lure, North Carolina and Virginia. Fast forward to the twenty-first century, and I have the Dirty Dancing Ultimate DVD edition. I just got a DVD player in December 2006 so the DVD concept is new to me. What a difference from the videotape. No more fast-forwarding that takes forever. When pausing a scene, the scene is actually visible. I could use the zoom feature to see what the title of the book is Baby, the main character, is reading.
Besides the movie, the DVD has cast interviews, the movie trailer, and music videos of songs from the movie. Enabling the trivia track allows certain facts about the movie to pop up throughout the film. Being hearing-impaired, I had watched the movie on TV with closed captioning, but the DVD captioning is very good even though it does not caption the songs. A cousin has an earlier DVD with the concert the movie spawned, but this one does not have the concert which is disappointing even though the concert is cheesy. A fun part of the DVD is the "easter eggs" which are hidden features in the DVD menu. A search on the Internet tells what they are. Since I'm such an avid fan, I would like more features on the DVD, but the average moviegoer should be very satisfied.
