Sucks up tons of dirt at 1st, but then overheats every 5 minutes

    made for pet hair, super on rugs, Cleans carpeting well

Dirt Devil Purpose for pets M140000 — 

After a Bissell we had purchased wasn't getting any dirt picked up, my fiancee and I decided to pick up a new vacuum cleaner. Since our daughter had asthma and we had cats, I saw this at our local big box hypermarket for about $80, and decided to get it sicne it claimed HEPA filters and "Perfect for Pets". It worked magnificently at picking up the cat hair, dirt and dust the first time I used it. In fact, I had to empty the cannister twice with all the stuff it picked up..

This vacuum worked great for the first few weeks.. But now, whenever I run it, it works for about five minutes and then shuts off. Since I smelled burning rubber, I thought maybe the fan belt was melting or had snapped off. I opened the bottom to gain access to the belt, but the belt was fine, aside from some hair stuck to the sides of where the belt runs. I decided to run it again and it worked fine for a few minutes, but then shut off again. I knew it wasn't unplugged and it didn't feel superhot or anything. This is at least the second vacuum cleaner I've had to purchase within the 1 1/2 years I've lived here..

It still works good, but I'm growing impatient with it, as far as waiting several minutes in between uses due to it overheating now, not like when it was brand new. My fiancee was bugging me to get that new H20 Vacuum which I think looks cheaply made and probably would last just as shortly as this vacuum, but at nearly three times the price.
