Dirt Devil Purpose for pets M140000 —

Just purchased a new Dirt Devil for pets 140000 today at Walmart.  My former Dirt Devil Vision vac finally 'bit the dust' after 5 years as the handle broke off and cannot be repaired [although the machine still works]. Having looked up vacuum cleaner reviews on every website imaginable I remained totally confused since there are SO many brands, models and prices around - $60? $300? Bagged? Bagless? Cyclonic? Dual Cyclonic? Upright? Cannister?, etc., etc., etc. I looked on line at EBay, Sears, Circuit City, BestBuy, BJ's, Sam's Club, Walmarts and other 'direct sale' websites. Fact was I needed a new vacuum cleaner ASAP and had no patience to continue researching feeling I was entering the Big Black Hole.  I went to BJ's Wholesale Club, Walmarts and Sears to compare brands/models/prices. I loved the Kenmore Progressive vacuums - both upright and cannister but did not enjoy the +/- $300 cost. I came upon the Dirt Devil Purpose at Walmart for $58 - not even a model on display and wondered how good could an inexpensive vacuum be. However I purchased it [figuring I could always use it as a secondary vacuum if it failed to do a good job.  Put it together as soon as I got home and began vacuuming the bedroom which I thought was relatively clean.  I was somewhat shocked and amazed at what it picked up even though I had vacuumed a couple of days ago.  Um, I guess it wasn't as clean as I thought.  I vacuumed 3 rooms + a stairway [using the pet turbobrush] and had to empty the bag 3x of pet hair, dust, remnants of carpet freshener and particles of who knows what!  I have a mission now - to thoroughly vacuum every corner of the house and hopefully get it really clean.  The vacuum is delightfully 'light weight' in comparison to my old Dirt Devil and maneuvers easily.  There are a couple of things I have already noticed that i wish were otherwise:  cord could be longer [it is 25']; hose could be longer [seems to extend only about 5' without attachments]; does not have a switch to turn off the beater bar for bare floors; no light in front.  However for $58 it seems to be powerful and does a good job on carpets [I have yet to try it on bare floors].  One thing to note - the manual says to clean the filter each time you vacuum and empty the dirt cup.  I would say this is essential since it picks up a lot of fine particles and dust and could overheat if not properly maintained.  A few reviews I read made reference to the machine cutting off [due to overheating?] and I would guess this is because the necessary maintenance was not followed.  So for a relatively little price and a lightweight powerful upright i'd recommend this model.  It does not do what the super high priced models do but you will pay 4-6x more for a machine that does basically the same thing - clean!

P.S. - the pet tool really scoured the carpeted stairway and removed a whole lot of dust and cat hair.  Once again Mr. Clean was not as clean as he thought:)

Wow, it is great that an inexpensive vacuum like this works so well.
