Dirk's Fish & Gourmet Shop - Chicago, IL Review

We have been going to Dirk's Fish Market since it opened a few years ago.  They have an excellent selection of fresh fish and a knowledgeable staff. I highly recommend it as your go to place for fresh fish.

They also stock a nice selection of vegetables and marinades that round out the meal.  The parking is easy. You can even stop in for a Jamba Juice at the same time. 

Our favorite item is the salmon: either the farm raised or wild salmon.  Both are very good.  We grill them on a cedar plank but the real secret is to get the Dirk's Teryiaki marinade. It is amazing and everyone who has tasted it raves about it.  With about 15 minutes on the grill it glazes on and leaves the fish moist and tender.

We have also ordered the lobster salad which was a real indulgence.  The sushi is made to order and quite good.  I like the staff although they can be a bit surly at times they are generally very knowledgeable and quick. Patience for the fish ignorant is in short supply, but they are enthusiastic when you ask for advice.

Dirk's Fish also has a great section of frozen deserts, bisques etc. It is just one of those places where you can feel their appreciation for the freshness and authenticity of what they sell.  I hope they never close.
