I recently switched to Direct TV after a really horrible experience with Dish Network.  It took almost a month to get an installation date, but I attribute that the change to digital TV in 2009.  The installer that came to my house was from the East St. Louis area, working in Springfield to help the... review »

We did not have any problems with the dish. The problems we encountered were with sales and customer service. We were told that if we moved before our contract ended that the contract would be void as long as we were unable to get direct tv at the place we moved to. We moved before our 2 year contract...

What is there to say about Direct Tv?

Well... Let's start with their pricing.  If you are looking for just basic channels and no premium channels it is fine.  However, if you are looking for movie channels and sports packages, maybe there is another option for you.

Direct Tv's customer service is pretty good though.  If you have a problem they usually take care of it.  The issue is usually resovled to your satisfaction.  However, you may have to get a little rowdy or go up the chain of command if you get a stubborn representative.

The equipment that Direct Tv uses is very nice.  Their...

We were told that the reception would be better than Dish and the outage would be less.  The reception is great but the down time is more.  Also were not completly truthful ablut the sports packages.  Be sure to get everything in writing before proceeding

I've had DTV for about three years now.  On average I have video/audio issues every 3 months.  I resisted purchasing their service protection plan until recently.  Over the past 4 weeks I have lost picture and audio 1 or 2 times daily requiring the receiver to be re-booted.  After the initial 3 phone calls I finally consented to the service protection plan $6/month after I was told that any further issues would require a tech visit.  Next phone call the explanation was it was a faulty software issue and a tech would not be able to fix the issue.  I continue to have audio/video issues...

I have had Direct TV for at least five years. Although I like the DVR service, the price and problems are not really worth it. The first two years in my house, I had horrible reception even though I live on top of a hill and have no trees blocking the satellite. The wires on the house for the satellite area also a bit of an eyesore. After upgrading to a new dish, I have not had any further reception problems. However, I have problems with three of the DVR's I have gone through so far. The worst part is that the company will send you a new one in return but you have to sign another one year contract.... review »

I recently went from DirectTv to Dish Network for the simple reason that Dish has guaranteed that the monthly fee will be exactly what I signed up for.  After two years with DirectTv, assuming that I was getting what I signed up for, I was paying for upwards of $70 per month for what I thought was their simplest programming package.

DirectTV even shut off my service for stating that I had an outstanding balance of $12.  This was about a week after I had paid them $138+.  That was certainly the breaking point for me.

Even When I cancelled my service,Which Direct TV bills for in advance, I had to...

I recently switched over from cable to direct tv. They supposedly had better prices, so I thought it was worth the shot. FInally the day arrived when the men were coming to set up the connection to our televison sets. I left the room to let them do their work. To my horror when I came back I saw holes in my walls! The men told me that one of the connection cords wasn't working so they had to drill a few extra holes. There was sheet rock everywhere. I was on my lunch break so I ahd to get back to the office, but the men assured me they would have the mess cleaned up.
    When I got off...

Direct TV was a poor choice. I signed up in response to the swtich to digital. The only thing worst than having a decision fostered upon you, is to have to pay big bucks for poor service. At installation we had technicians who weren't capable and left before all questions were answered and the salesman promised functions were performed. Then when I call customer service for assistance, I was told the issue was my problem since it wasn't taken care of before the technician left. Aside from not doing as promised - I had a formatting issue that wasn't fixed with their current procedure. Their suggestions...

We had Comcast when we moved to Northern VA and then when we moved a little more south into a house we got Direct TV. The reason was because we did that Verizon triple bundle all in one bill (internet, house phone, TV) since Verizon was working with Direct TV well thats what we got. In the beginning it was fine then when it would start to barely drizzle we lost signal. THEN we lost signal when it was just cloudy out. We reported the problem and since we were sill under warrenty they said "just reset your box" the picture should be back within a 1/2 hr. We had DVR, but wanted HD TV so the guy came...

I am writing a review about Direct Tv.  I have had direct tv for one year now and

I am totally happy because I switched from Comcast.  Direct Tv has more to offer

and are much easier to deal with than Comcast in Harrisburg, Pa.  I bought the new

Samsung HD tv and was totally happy with that product as well.  Anyway, the reason

I like Direct Tv when you talk with them they try and solve your problem or assist you

in a courteous manner.  Not the case with Comcast.  There are a great deal of channels

to choose from as well as three to four packages depending on your viewing habits.

I love the fact...

Direct TV is a casualty of my household cost cutting efforts.  Because we liked having the NFLChannel, we stayed with Direct TV after one of our two owned receivers stopped working.  We upgraded that receiver to a leased DVR.  After that we learned they changed our package without informing us.  And this year raised our bill without a warning.  I researched and spoke to Dish Network who clearly laid out a program bundle to our liking with the price for the next  2 years.  Then we called Direct TV.  Try as they might they met the price for the first year but wanted a 2 year contract without...

1- Sales rep lies; misleads when signing up.
2- Equipment needs to be reset on average every 2 months.
3- Though the equipment is leased, we ae responsible for not working; no minimum time limit.

I've subscribed to all three television venues:  Cable, Dish Network, and Direct TV.  At the present I have Direct TV.  When it comes to cost, I feel there is not much difference amongst the three.  They all get the same programming with similiar costs.  Much depends on the package one purchases.  Cable had the advantage of being able to offer local channels regardless to where you live.  Local news and programming is important to my family.  Dish and Direct TV might offer local channels depending on where you live.  If you can get local channels from an off air antennae then most likely...
