I signed up for Directv 2 years ago as part of a bundled package from Bell South.   I had changed from Comcast and although I miss the speed of cable, my DSL from AT&T is almost as fast and a little cheaper.  I worried a bit about Directv and the horror stores I had read about their repair charges.  I included the monthly maintenance fee in my calculation and I think I ended up saving about $15 per month with Direct.  I have only experienced outages a few times all year (about the same with Comcast) and since I completed the terms of my contract, they knocked $10 off per month to keep me as a customer.  I'm in the Nashville area and there is no cable competition here yet, so the rates are all very similar.  I wouldn't hesitate to go back to cable but there's no compelling reason to go back either.  All in all, I'm happy with Directv and probably will stay with them for the foreseeable future.  By the way, I am very impressed with their customer service.  They have always been very helpful to me.
