I'm like everyone else. I want the most bang for the buck. I had a series 1 Tivo and loved it. It was getting very long in the tooth. Also my dislike of Comcast was growing (especially the high $$ for a lot of channels I don't care a wit about).
I decided to try DirecTV since it had:
1. Lower cost for a similiar number and selection of channels.
2. HD channels.
3. Tivo-like DVR.
#1 and #2 turned out to be true. But there is no way you can compare thier DVR to Tivo. It's inferior in every way. It has a very unintuitive menu system. It's software simply does not work in many areas (bugs they are loath to admit are even thier). It cannot intelligently arrange you favorite shows so that they all get recorded. The remote used several different buttons to mean the same thing (confusing). You can only have 50 shows that you want to autorecord. There's a lot more but those are just off the top of my head.
I thought that many years of DVR technology would advance the state of the art beyond what Tivo had in generation 1. I was wrong.
