Refer-a-friend bonus is a scam

Cons
HORRIBLE customer service, No referral bonus as advertised

DirecTV advertises that if you refer-a-friend, both you and your friend receive a $50 credit on your bill.  This is paid at $10/month for 5 months.  All the friend has to do is give your account number at the installation and in 4-6 weeks, you will receive your credit.

This is a scam for DirecTV to gain more customers.  They do not pay the bonus as promised.  I have referred two friends following the instructions explicitly and have yet to see my credit some four months later.

My friend called DirecTV at two months to inquire into the credit and they claimed they knew nothing of him being referred by me.  About that time, I referred a second friend thinking it would just be a simple matter to clear up.  My second referral has now had DirecTV for two months and neither of us have received our credit as well.  I called this evening and customer serrvice said they had no record of my referral for either friend.  I am canceling my DirecTV when my committment is up in a month and switching to either Dish Network or back to cable.

This is happening to me right now. If not a true scam, the advertising is intended to be deceptive. If you want DirecTV, do NOT plan on ever receiving the advertised referral credits. Ever. When signing up, have friend account number first, get customer service agent name, make note of date and conversation, record it if possible. Go Dish Network instead. In the meantime, speak out, spread the word on the internet.
