DIRECTV  — 

 

Five years ago we installed DirectTV.  To be honest, I am not even sure why.  We purchased the Sony DirectTV/Tivo receiver and the lifetime package to Tivo.  I have spent at least 20 hours of my life on the phone with DirectTV trying to diagnose why our signal is spotty.  Whenever it rains and even gets a little cloudy we lose reception. The frustrating part is that it goes in and out.  

Also, you should know that the DirectTV system relies on being able dial out.  For some unknowable reason, one of our units (we have three) has not dialed out for 300+ days.

The only reason I have stuck with them is because of the Tivo lifetime deal which we will lose if we buy another unit.  However, after not being able to watch the Sopranos or The Daily Show Tonight and having suffered through years of inconsistent service, I am at the end of my rope.

I am getting Comcast Digital Cable tomorrow. 

 

I have heard that people get DirectTV for the sports packages (which I don't care about) or for the HD channels.  I say don't bother.  It is the equivalent of buying a race car that is constantly breaking down.  At a minimum I want reliable reception.  If you can't deliver that, forget about the bells and whistles.

I would like to be put on the I Also Loathe Directv list. Personally, I think it works fine, but their customer service is unbearable, insulting, rude, unworkable, over-cumbersome, and just plain awful. Not to mention, when I tried to use their "Mover's Blah Blah" service, I sat at the house for 4 hours with no call and no installer. I spent three days trying to get Directv to work it out and after too many hours on the phone with them, I gave up and quit.

I could not agree with you more Matt!!....I loathe DirectTV....I had nothing but problems starting with the installation, the DVR player, customer service, being charged for options that I didn't order--the list goes on....I cannot believe I left my cable provider for this company---my cable never went out once in the 15 years I had it....Right now I am almost a year into a locked in 2 year contract (because I have an HD package) but as soon as the 2 year commitment is over---I'm going back to cable!!!!....Lisa
