I had been a cable customer with Time Warner for over 15 years and thought they were the only real option we had for television service in our area. Thankfully, a poor experience with their "customer service" and technicians woke us up to the wonderful reality of satellite TV!

After considering several options through local providers, I jumped on the Internet to the Directv site which was easy to navigate and use. I was able to make an installation appointment on the site and they send confirmations right away!

Now I will make one disclaimer to my five-star rating, and that is that our first installer for DirecTV was a huge disappointment and almost ruined the experience. He wasn't on time and then was really shady when dealing with us and told us we had to cut down some tree limbs or else he couldn't get a signal. He left and said he would come back in two hours and never returned despite repeated phone calls to DirecTV. Turns out that he was an independent contractor who worked for an installation company that DirecTV hires to do their installations.

Despite this experience, we were stunned at the high level of customer service we received from DirecTV who arranged for another installer to come out and they also gave us some monthly discounts for our first year to make up for the poor installer experience. The second installer was excellent and had no trouble getting a signal or making the installation.

When we turned on our TV for the first time with DirecTV, we realized what a poor picture and selection we had been getting from Time Warner for all of those years. We pay a little more, but a "free" DVR and tons more channels have made the switch more than worth it.

Reception has only rarely been interrupted in a bad rainstorm or two, but only for a little while. Other than that, we love our satellite and would never go back to cable!
