This DVR is just an image of the real thing

Comments about DirecTV - DirecTV DTV Receiver:

I was surprised to see all the positive reviews for this DVR then I realized it wasn't for this product but the invention of the DVR itself. I don't think these reviewers owned any other DVD's prior to the review.

I can never justify how rotten this product is in writing, so my wife and I are in the process of creating a clip for YouTube for a better understanding of the incompetence of both the manufacturer and DTV for buying it. I don't understand what happened to DirecTV in the couple of years we forced to watch cable. We had been with DirecTV since the 90's. We still have one of their DVR's in a box. I'm still trying to justify hooking it up.

*It's slow, slow, slow. *

I'm a computer programmer by trade, anyone knows that you don't stack commands if your product can't handle it real time. So suffice it to say, I'm never where I want to be but where they took me after it finally caught up with the buttons I pushed on the remote.

I can't live without a DVR. I agree I'm thrilled with them. However, this DVR takes so long to record, watch, and delete that I'm reconsidering my VCR.

*What happened to common sense?*

Now I finally have my list of programs to watch. To find my programs easier I sorted it by alphabetically. I find my program heading, click on it and get a listing of all the *episodes* I recorded IN ALPHABETICAL ORDER. If I tried to watch American Idol in this order, folks would be singing after they got the boot. A little common sense bluntly suggests descending date order for all my episodes under the header.

I choose the option record a maximum five episodes of a series. Come the sixth recording it records it and wipes out the oldest recording I was saving for later. Not only do I lose my episodes, but I also, I can't record anything else while it's sucking up the recorder on a sixth episode I never requested.

I do not watch TV, just my recording, so I needed to do a lot of program searching. Forget it! Go online to the TV guide and find it. The previous college football season the decided to name the games by the teams rather than by 'college football'. This would be fine if I knew what teams were playing - but that's why I did a search in the first place. A search on keyword College/Sports/Football returned nothing.

Looking for a movie? Just key it in the 'Smart Search'. It returns 100's of lines of the same movie repeatedly on every pay channel there is. First, I don't get pay channels. Secondly, list all the occurrences of the movie once for each channel to shorten the list by 75 pages.

Anyway the nightmare continues to this day but has eased up some. Two of the DVR's gave up the ship at the same time and they were replaced with a much speedier version. The incompetence of it still remains, tho.

They also gave me a 'radio' controlled remote which actually works when I key in something. It still takes naps, but at least it doesn't take 10 minutes to change the channel anymore.

DirecTV DVR

Comments about DirecTV - DirecTV DTV Receiver:

My dad loves this DVR. I don't know how he used to watch television without it because he uses it so much. This DVR is so easy to use. All you have to do is click on the program you want to record by using the guide on the television. It even allows you to pause and rewind live televison. If you press the record button at the end of a tv show but you had been watching it from the beginning then it will record all the way from the beginning. It starts recording from when you started to watch it. It is easy to know when the DVR is recording something because a liitle orange light will turn on. With a DVR you can watch one show while recording another to watch later. You can do the same thing with a VCR but it is a lot easier to use than a VCR. The only problems we have had with this DVR is that sometimes when you record something it will record the sound but not the picture. This kept happening but then all of a sudden it stopped happening. I don't know if this is just a defect with ours or if this happens a lot.

its amazing

Comments about DirecTV - DirecTV DTV Receiver:

I love this DVR, its in my room and I'm a teenager who barely watches tv. I only watch it when i go to sleep, but none of the shows i like are on at that time so i just record the series and make the it work to my advantage for when im gone. The more modern one is downstairs and i love that one too. i've memorized the controller easily, so i can do whatever i want with out looking at the controller ever. I might not like the company so much, but with enough complaining you can almost anything out of them if you've been with them long enough like i have.

Great features but sometimes gets stuck

By

from Waukegan, IL

Comments about DirecTV - DirecTV DTV Receiver:

PROS:  I love our DTV.  We have had it for a year now.  We really love using it because we can look for and record shows that we like, which otherwise we wouldn't know existed.  For example, we have been recording lots of Christmas shows for our 8 year old daughter to watch together when we have time.

CONS:  However, sometimes I find that when I am watching a show, and hit pause, or fast forward throught commercials that it gets stucks on the point where I left off.  For example, I was watching a show last week and I paused it for a half hour, then came back and rewound a few minutes.  When it came to that point where I last paused it, it brought up the ending screen - delete or keep it and I couldnt watch beyond that point.  So I had to leave it for a day and then it was fine.

USE THE BEST HDDVR TO VIEW 75 PLUS HD CHANNELS FROM DIRECTV,

By

from Yuba City, CA

Comments about DirecTV - DirecTV DTV Receiver:

THE HD20-200 DVR-100 IS THE BEST HD DVR SYSTEM TO USE TO VIEW DIRECTV 'S 75 PLUS HD CHANNELS. PLUS YOU GET ALL THE NON HD PROGRAMS AND NOW GET TO ALSO PLAY GAMES ON YOUR TV SET THRU DIRECTV.

THIS SYSTEM ALLOWS ME TO RECORD UP TO 200 HOURS OF REG. PROGRAMS AND 50 HOURS OF HD PROGRAMS.

I NEVER MISS A SHOW ANYMORE AND NOW I CAN RECORD TWO PROGRAMS AT THE SAME TIME WHILE I WATCH A PROGRAM I HAD RECORDED  DAYS BEFOR IF I WANT TO.

I NEVER WORRY ABOUT MISSING A MOVIE OR TV PROGRAM ANYMORE BECAUSE NOW I CAN LET MY DIRECTV H20-200 HDDVR RECORD THE PROGRAM FOR ME ONCE I HAVE IT PROGRAM TO DO SO. I CAN TELL IT THAT I WANT TO WATCH ANY MOVIE THAT HAS JOHN GARFIELD IN IT AND WHEN IT COMES ON DIRECTV  AT ANYTIME OR ANY DAY IT WILL BE RECORDED FOR ME TO VIEW WHEN I WANT TO. THE SAME FOR MY PROGRAMS.

TODAY I ALSO PLAYED TWO HOURS OF POKER ON MY TV AND HAD A GREAT TIME AND ALL I NEEDED TO USE WAS MY DIRECTV REMOTE.

I HAVE HAD DIRECTV FOR OVER 15 YEARS AND EACH YEAR IT HAS BETTER SYSTEMS AND MORE PROGRAMS AND NOW THE MOST IN HDTV OF ANYONE.

NEVER WOULD I GO BACK TO CABLE!!
