Differin (Adapalene) Gel 0.3%

What is it?
Differin is a topical gel that is applied to the face for those who suffer from severe acne breakouts. It can not be purchased over the counter. It must be prescribed by a Doctor, usually a Dermatologist. It can be very expensive if you don't have insurance.  Our receipt said it was $207.00.  Thankfully our insurance covers it and we only paid a $15.00 copay for Differin.

You shouldn't expose yourself to prolonged periods of sunlight while using Differin as it makes your skin more sensitive to burning.

The first few weeks of using Differin, your skin will probably get dry and red looking.  This is normal as Differin's main purpose is to renew your skin.

Differin is only recommended for people ages 12 and older.

My Viewpoint!
When my son turned 13 years old, his cute little dimpled face started to get peppered with pimples.  Being extremely vain and really caring about his looks, he was about to have a meltdown and go into hiding.  We bought Proactiv because of how well I had heard it worked and it did work.  But it didn't work for long.  After about 3 months, pimples were popping out and my son was in a major dilemma.

During a routine Doctors checkup, we mentioned that he was having trouble controlling his breakouts and had been trying many over the counter acne medications that weren't really helping at all.  The Doctor referred us to a Dermatologist and we were on our way to clear skin!!

The Dermatologist recommended 2 products (I've yet to review DUAC) to work together to help clear up his complexion.  One of the products was Differin.   After my son cleanses his face with water, he applies Differin all over (kind of like a mask) at bedtime.   That's all there was to it.

It took about 5 weeks but it seemed almost overnight that his acne was gone.  His forehead was as clear as it was pre-puberty. His self-confidence was back and he never goes anywhere overnight without his Differin.  He's recommended it to a lot of his friends who have the same problem and swears he'll never give it up!

My only question is: Where was Differin when I was 13 years old and pimply?

I just posted a comment on someone else's profile for an acne product. My siblings and I never went through an acne phase. My Daddy thought it could be prevented if we didn't eat a lot of fatty foods and soft drinks. Maybe there was some truth to his logic. But my sister's oldes son is having the problems that your son has--the onset of acne with puberty. I would love to recommend this product to her but I don't think her husband will let him go to the dermatologist just to get some acne medicine. ~Gigi

I'm so glad this worked for him! I was given this in my early 20's and it dried my skin out really bad. Glad to hear that it does work for some!
