Dexter Review Summary

"Find yourself rooting for a serial killer - and liking it!" watching Showtime's weekly crime drama Dexter. Michael C. Hall stars as "a forensics expert who specializes in blood splatter" and secretly kills the criminals he thinks are getting away with it. What draws reviewers in even more is the tremendous back story of Dexter's youth because "it raises moral questions about justice and capital punishment, love, romance, betrayal." With the lead character killing other murderers, Dexter has fans asking "Who would have thought you could like a serial killer?" Based on the novel Darkly Dreaming Dexter by Jeff Lindsay, this series has many reviewers calling it "one of the best, most original shows on TV." While there are "so many cop dramas, hospital dramas, comedies, reality shows ... there are no other shows like this one."

Michael C. Hall seems to have a preoccupation with death.  Having just spent 5 years playing an owner of a funeral home on HBO's Six Feet Under, Hall jumps right back into the macabre as a blood splatter analyst for the Miami Metro Police Dept.  He also happens to be a serial killer.  What would Sonny... review »

Recently my wife and upgraded our cable television to Digital Service with HBO, Showtime, and Starz. I also realized that I have way too much time on my hands.  When I have down time, I have been watching Showtime on Demand.  One of the shows I got hooked on is an Original Showtime Series.  It is...

Where do I even begin?  Dexter is one of my all time favorite TV shows which leaves me wondering what that says about me!  Within the first few minutes of watching it I was hooked.

Dexter, a Showtime original series is a quirky, creative look into the mind of a serial killer.  But, the show comes with a twist.  The show is based on the novel "Darkly Dreaming Dexter" by Jeff Lindsay.  [Note to self, "Pick up book to read."]

Dexter is a TV crime drama written about a man named Dexter Morgan [played by Michael Hall].  In this series Dexter must lead a double life to hide who he really is. ...

I was told about Dexter by a friend.I heard him talking about it with someone and couldn't help myself..I had to know more.I watched on "regular" tv but couldn't understand it completely.I borrowed the season 1 dvd and couldn't believe it....This character is truly a "character"..He's funny,in a twisted sort of way..You feel like you're truly in his head.I watched season 2 in a 12 hour marathon the day before season 3 began..I LOVE Michael C. Hall in this show...I hope season 3 is as much fun as 2!!

This show is like a breath of fresh air - there's nothing else like it on television. The rpemise, of course, is over the top: a forensics expert who specializes in blood spatter, is also a serial killer who targets bad guys. Basically, we're asked to believe that the title character, Dexter, has been trained by an understanding adoptive father, to channel his urge to kill in a somewhat productive way: by tracking down violent criminals who have managed to evade capture, and brandishing his own brand of justice. Plausible? Not very. Interesting and fun? Intensely so!

My only major problem with...

It took me a while to decide, after seeing the first episode, if I wanted to invest the time in watching the series (I ordered it from Netflix), and I'm glad I did. I'm not an eye-for-an-eye type, so I don't like the killing; however, the relationship between the father and foster son has been interesting because it raises questions. In flashbacks, we learn the father, who is a police officer, recognizes the boy is a sociopath and trains him to survive (not get caught) by faking normal social behavior and killing only people who "deserve it" (one of the challenging discussion points).

Actually,...

When I first saw the show was a little worried that it would be to gross for me due to the fact I don't like horror anything. After watching the first episode I couldn't stop watching and now I am a huge fan and love the show! It is what I look for to once my children go to bed.I watch every episode even re-runs.The story line is very good and you are always on the edge of your seat. I think it is original and has to be my favorite show!

When I first watched the show, I was real interested mostly because I had no idea what the heck was going on....A serial-killer-good-guy??....it ruined all my opinions of serial killers.   :(...well, even though he is a full-fledged murderer, the show is very off-beat and actually entertaining. I only watched the end of the 1st season and was eagerly waiting for the next episode. I do have to admit that I think Dexter's sister(forgot her name) is miscast and none of the other characters are even worth remembering.....but the originality and entertainment of the show, makes it worth it to continue... review »

I watched "Six Feet Under" and loved the quirkiness of the characters and only tuned in to the first episode or Dexter to see the main actor. I fell in love with the show. Dexter works on so many levels. Dokes speaks (spoke) what ever was in his head o lot of the times saying what my reaction would have been. The narration lets you stay inside of Dexter's head and the range is from confusing to hilarious but it never misses a beat.

I admit this show is probably not for everyone. There is "overkill" a lot of weeks with the amount of blood and the language is not suitable for children. Then again,...

I love this show. When my husband asked me to watch it with him for the first time-I was like oh no, we have opposite taste here! But from minute one I was hooked! When the episode is over I am yelling no not already! I hope he doesn't get caught either. He doesn't just kill anyone-only the murderers.I am ok with that!He has a sweet side with his sister and girlfriend and her kids-I think he's safe to be around.I love Dexter and can't wait to see what happens next!

From the first episode, I fell in love with Dexter! It is one of the most original, fun shows on Television! There are so many cop dramas, hospital drams, comedies, reality shows.....but, there are no other shows like this one. He's a serial killer, yes. But, if you honestly look inside yourself, how many times have you watched the news, or read an article about a child molester, or murderer, or drug dealer going free because of a technicality, or getting 5 years for taking another persons life, and you thought to yourself, "If that was my family, someone I loved that had been the victim....I would... review »

The season finale of Dexter was like a deflated balloon. All the tension built throughout the season reached its high point and popped in the episode before, and left this week to let out the rest of the hot air. For those who have not seen the Showtime cable drama, Dexter is about a blood splatter analyst (played by Michael C. Hall) who works at the Miami Police Department during the day and at night kills criminals that the justice system failed to convict while trying to appear normal to everyone he knows. The show is based off a novel by Jeff Lindsay called Darkly Dreaming Dexter. According... review »

I have watched the two season of Dexter, which are on DVD. I enjoyed the story lines and character development. I would have liked to watch them air on the network, but I do not currently subscribe to Showtime or have Cabel television. Since this is the case, I have had to wait for their release on DVD.

I have found this to be a good medium for watching many television series, that I came late to, or did not have the time or ability to watch. with the DVD's you can view the entire series in a few days, or stretch the viewing out at your discretion.

Dexter is cunningly played by Michael C. Hall of...

Last year I subscribed to Showtime and immediately found my self hooked into watching each and every episode-including last years reruns-of "Dexter". It's an intriguing look into the mind and the life of a tormented serial killer, played superbly by Michael C. Hall. You may remember Michael Hall from "Six Feet Under" where he played  the part owner of an funeral home who took his undertaking quite seriously. He was gay, quirky, and a little bit strange in "six Feet Under", and, he is just as quirky and strange in "Dexter" but decidely heterosexual this time around. You follow him thru life as a... review »

Who would have thought you could like a serial killer?

'Dexter' has some of the best writing and character development to come along in a long time. The characters on the show are fleshed out and you grow to know them all.

Dexter is the main attraction, though. Dexter works for the police department as a blood splatter expert and Dexter kills murderers. Dexter kills many murderers, making him a serial killer that the police are desperate to catch. He has strict criteria for his victims to meet before they can become victims. Dexter is an extremely likeable character, despite his gruesome hobby. The...
