Dexter —

This show is like a breath of fresh air - there's nothing else like it on television. The rpemise, of course, is over the top: a forensics expert who specializes in blood spatter, is also a serial killer who targets bad guys. Basically, we're asked to believe that the title character, Dexter, has been trained by an understanding adoptive father, to channel his urge to kill in a somewhat productive way: by tracking down violent criminals who have managed to evade capture, and brandishing his own brand of justice. Plausible? Not very. Interesting and fun? Intensely so!

My only major problem with this show is the uneven cast. In the title role,  Michael C. Hall is great...so much more likable than he was in SIx Feet Under. HIs main foil is Officer James Doakes, the only person who senses there is something off about Dexter. Unfortunately, Erik King, who portrays Doakes, is a poor actor who belives that MORE is more: he overacts in every way: his every line of dialogue is delivered as if it were the Gettysburg Address, his physical gestures are ridiculously over the top, his facial expressions border on comical. It's a shame, because having a foil so close to Dexter's theatre of operations makes for some interesting happenings.

All in all, though, it's a really good show.
