Okay, a couple of stipulations are in order before I roll on with this review. First, Anne Hathaway (Ella Enchanted, Havoc, Brokeback Mountain) has the most luscious set of lips I have ever seen on a Caucasian woman-yes even more sensual than Angela Jolie. And second I love, love, love Meryl Streep (The Bridges of Madison County, Silkwood), and her performance in this movie, Devil Wears Prada was certainly on par with the rest of her body of work.
That being said the aforementioned movie Devil Wear Prada was a bit of a letdown. It is one of those movies where the trailers were the highlights of the film, and the movie itself is just so-so. The whole movie seemed rushed and a bit too contrived and predictable to be really enjoyable. Ms. Hathaway's characters' transition from the girl next door to fashion devote is a case in point; it was rushed and none to believable. Since she didn't really like the job anyway, what was her motivation? There was hardly background on her before she turned therefore I wasn't really invested in her character, or any of the characters for that matter.
The rest of the cast turned in fine performances, but they were never really in the movie; they were set piece without much soul. We never got to know them, thus could never really gauge their importance in Andy's (Hathaway) life save a passing reference. Even her boyfriend Nate (Adrian Grenier - Entourage), was one-dimensional.
Devil Wear Prada: I enjoyed the visuals (lot of pretty people), Ms Hathaway's lips (and she does dress up well), Ms. Streep's acting, but little else.
