The Case

I work for an educational stock trading company as a copywriter, which means that I'm at my computer 8 hours a day. As such, I'm extremely well-versed in the wide world of Internet games, and the one I just recently discovered - Desktop Tower Defense - is the epitome of addictive fun!

The Good

DTD has everything you could want from a computer game - it's easy to learn, it requires the use of strategy, it has levels for beginners and experts alike, and it's sooo entertaining! I enjoy the fact that this game calls for thought and planning, but, at its most basic level, it's really just easy to play. Trust me, even if you're not into computer games, this one will have you hooked!

Desktop Tower Defense consists of a game map (which looks like a desktop - hence the name), various gun options, and creeps, which are little bug-like things that you need to destroy before they reach the other side of your desktop. In normal mode, you'll have creeps coming at your desktop from the left (moving across to the right exit) and from the top (moving down to the bottom exit).

Your job is to choose which guns you want where and then buy them, setting up a path or maze for your creeps to travel through. Each creep, when destroyed, gives you money, and you'll need that money to buy your guns (or upgrade them). There are various types of creeps - normal, flying, fast, spawn, and morph are just a few. Different guns work on different types of creeps. In the normal mode, you'll have 50 waves of creeps, one after the other. Advanced players have the option of sending multiple waves at one time.

The Bad

This game is really a blast to play, and I highly recommend it, but be warned! Desktop Tower Defense is addictive! You'll want to play game after game, trying out new mazes and strategies for success. And, before you know it, your whole morning is shot and you'll have to scramble to catch up in the afternoon. You'll have so much fun that it's almost worth it, though!

The Verdict

Five stars! Give Desktop Tower Defense a try - you'll never have so much fun defending your desktop and destroying creeps!

Luckily I have a solution for not getting behind on the workload. I work for the governement and all game sites are blocked! Bummer. Even the games that came with the computer are gone.

I don't think I'd last 5 minutes at a job. Even as a social worker when I finally got my own computer (9 + years ago) at work I was on it looking for a new house and that was before I started writing! Jo

I played this for a couple of hours with my brother one night. Well, we were taking turns between DTD and World of Warcraft. Its so addictive, we spent more time discussing DTD strategy than WoW. And, as my wife would tell you, that is quite an accomplishment.
