Deramaxx killed my dog. I took my Rottie, Brutus, to our vet on Wed, Sept10th, 2008. He was on Tramadol for hip pain and he was 15 years 8 months old. After having blood work done, I was given Deramaxx for his hip pain, which was finally becoming difficult for him. I gave him Tramadol and Deramaxx the next day - only giving him 1/2 tablet of Deramaxx with his food. I did the same thing on Friday. Friday night, he started vomiting. The diarrhea started soon after lasting all through the night. Mind you, this Rottweiler was the heathiest boy I'd ever seen - he was in a special Lucky 13 Longevity Study with Purdue University because he was so old. On Saturday morning, September 13th, 2008, he was brought to a "different" vet than the one I brought him to on Wednesday, because no one from my first vet's office called me to let me know the extent of his blood work details, except for receiving a brief phone call on Thurs. night indicating - a change in his blood work. What we didn't know was that his kidney readings were quite high, remember he was over 15, and he should NEVER HAVE BEEN GIVEN DERAMAXX!!! On Saturday morning, we had to say good-bye to our beloved pet. An autopsy was performed and the vet said he had a very recent (within a day) ulceration in his stomach. I am so upset and beside myself I cannot even comprehend what to do next. My poor boy suffered and died because of this harmful drug. I have another Rottie that we had on prednisone for a long, long time as he has masticatory myocitis a degenerative muscle disease in his jaw. We tried switching him to Deramaxx two years ago and his mouth "froze" in an open position and we thought for sure he was going to die. I should never have given this terrible drug to my boys. Luckily for the second one, he pulled through. My other boy was just too old and the Deramaxx did its damage and took its toll all because of my efforts to better his quality of life!!!
