Dennis Miller's rants are as relevant today as they were in '97.

Quick View: Dennis Miller has always been one of those comedians that you either really liked or really didn't. I really like him. I enjoyed him on SNL and I watched his HBO show. Loved it! His wit is just amazing. The stuff that comes out of his head should be written down. Oh wait! It is. In this book, is a compilation of Miller's best rants from his HBO show seasons 1-3.

My Take on Dennis Miller - The Rants

Dennis Miller has a kind of smart humor that some just don't like. My good friend hates him. He thinks Miller is a jackass. I, on the other hand, find him riveting. I loved when he would start out slow and just whip himself into a frenzy of a rant and make points that were not just worthy of a chuckle but true, real, relevant points.

In this book, is a compilation of Miller's best rants from his HBO series. They are written word for word as he delivered them and they pack a punch. This 224 page book will likely offend Republicans because Miller leans heavily toward being a Liberal although he often has views that seem to be more conservative than some Republican politicians'.

But it's not about politics really. It more about how Miller infuses amazing humor into such relevant and serious topic matter. His metaphors and witticisms keep me from getting bored even when he is ranting about something I don't care about.

I read the book cover to cover and laughed out loud several times. I nodded my head in approval as well. Miller believes in taking personal responsibility, not blaming your parents for your failed life, and in exercising his right to free speech  - long winded, amazingly articulate yet funny - free speech.

Although this book was published in 1997, most is very relevant today. Obviously there are references that seem dated - because they are - but most of the rants could easily have been penned today. I loved this book and I like Dennis Miller.

But that's just my opinion - I could be wrong. ;)

My Viewpoint

I always thought Dennis Miller was one of the smarter comedians around. Even when he was just doing shtick on Saturday Night Live, there was more to him than say, Adam Sandler. (I know many love that guy but he gives me the creeps.)

Dennis Miller - The Rants is enlightening, funny, satirical, sarcastic, and relevant even today. This book was enjoyable from page one even if I didn't agree with Miller's personal opinion. It was his delivery (even in print) that kept me interested and reading. Buy the book. You'll laugh, you'll agree, you'll disagree, but you will be entertained. 4 stars just because it IS dated and I would love new rants!

Dennis Miller is a like him or hate him guy. But he's got an amazingly sharp wit and he can deliver a rant so well that it makes me smile even if I totally don't agree with him.

The best comedians can make you laugh about the most important topics! I can't say whether or not I like Miller b/c honestly don't think I've seen his stand up ever. This might be worth a read. Thanks!
