DISCLAIMER: If you are looking for a cardio workout, most commonly associated with weight loss, this is not it. If you are looking for a strength training or pilates workout that gets your heart beat up, or, you are looking to tone, you are in the right place!

Let me first say that I have never been a big workout person. That is, until 1.5 years ago. I hired a personal trainer in August 2006. And, after several sessions together, I realized that I liked pilates. Not only did I like the way it made me feel, but it also started to sculpt my body. So, my personal trainer and I worked on a couple of pilates routines, and I have been doing them ever since. The really cool thing is that she gave me routines to do outside of the gym-- so I didnt need her or to spend money on a gym. Fitness on a dime- GREAT!

I now check in with my trainer every 3 months to talk about boredom in my routine. During my last checkpoint, my trainer recommended that I try out a bunch of workout DVDs-- since I genuinely had the interest in working out just not the know-how.So, I went online and ordered 10. Yes, 10 exercise videos. Each excercise DVD was on sale for about $7-$9 and all were focused on toning or pilates. It was the best $100 I have spent in a long time.

One of the DVDs was Denise Austins Hit the Spot 10 five minute target toners.

I have now been doing this workout video for about 3 months and I have grown to like it alot. But, let me lay out the plusses and minuses:

Advantages of Denise Austin's Target Toners DVD

  • I really like the diversity of the programs. She has legs, butt, arms, shoulders, etc; A little something for every body part.
  • I also like that it is fully customizable. You select the sections you want and then add them all together. You can make any combo you want-- it's like 10 workouts in one. Here are some of the workouts: ab chisler, thigh trimmer, chest trimmer, back sculptor, arm shaper, shoulder definer, hip slimmer, etc.
  • I also really like that Denise works you out very hard in 5 minutes. So, she doesnt waste time... she gets right to the workout and doesnt stop
  • I like the pyschological advantage of only having to workout 5 minutes. It causes me to do more than I would have otherwise.

Disdvantages of Denise Austin's Target Toners DVD

  • The audio quality is very poor. Denise's voice is cut off during every introductory. It's weird.
  • Denise's language is a little cheesy. She will say things like "your butt is the last thing to leave a room" or "these are concentrated exercises (like 400 times)"
  • Sometimes I wish she had 10 minute video segment instead of 5 minute

Overall, I really like Denise Austin's Target Toner DVD. For anyone open to working out at home and looking for a customized, yet kick your butt DVD,you can find it here!

I bought a couple of the 10-minute exercise videos and I like them all so far! I like them way better than the other 7 that I bought. It could be mental though-- I just dont like the idea of sweating a lot or having to work out for long periods of time.

Let me know how you like it. It was among my favorites-- after trying 10. I have 2 others that I like as well, so I have to review those too!

You're being right on the money is great, and I do appreciate it. Most importantly, is your honesty "fab," since I've been questioning getting the tapes. At least I know what I'll be getting....

Thanks for the review! I like the sound of a 5 minute workout. Maybe that would motivate me!

This sounds good, Jolie. I used to work out with a show called "The Body Electric" and have a couple of their tapes. Only problem is I have so much stuff in my living room (in front of the tube) that it's hard to find room to lay down for the floor exercises!

I have this. Denise is someone you either can tolerate or you can't. I like her well enough but she sometimes says the nuttiest things. Try her Yoga Butt DVD if you want to feel it in the butt and thighs yet still do Pilate/Yoga like poses. OUCH!

I used to do Denise Austin faithfully . . and while yes cheesey and a little too perky for me now wish I could find the time. She really works.
