What can I say about Delta Airlines....this week i found a very reasonable walk up fare from BOS to JFK. $149.00. The flight was on a new CR900 and was on time and smooth. However othertimes i found them to be far in excess of the competition on routes such as JetBlue, Airtran and even American. On my last two trans-continental flights the brand new in flight entertainment system did not work for most of the flights. In flight service..there is none!! Finally there is no logic to customer service. Last year I was travling with my son from Charleston SC. He was coming home on leave from the US Navy and traveling in dress whites. Not knowing what time he would be able to leave base, we made flight arrangements for late in the afternoon. When they were let out early, we headed to the airport knowing there was a flight five hours earlier then the one we were booked on. Upon the arrival at the airport, we inquired about getting on the earlier flight as "stand by". I was informed that Delta no longer has a stand by policy, and I would have to change the tickets. I could not do that at the counter so i had to go to a phone bank and call reservations to do so. To cut to the chase they wanted $450.00 to change the tickets, which included a change fee and increase in fare. We chose to wait, and the flight went out with 10 empty seats. So they elected to have an active military man in dress uniform sit for five hours and sent a plane to his airport with empty seats. Upon writing to Delta i was politely told thats our policy, too bad. And youhad to wonder why they were bankrupt at the time. I only travel on Delta when there is no other viable alternative. Finally forget traveling in JFK thier terminals are old, in disrepair and impossible ti navigate.
