After owning the Dell Studio XPS 8100 Desktop for about 5 months, the system starting indiscriminately but regularly stalling and freezing - to the point where it was not usable at all. Then I found a TON of complaints online about the XPS having this issue, usually the laptop model. Dell has agreed to replace the hard drive as it's still under warranty, but really this many complaints about a particular model - bad business! From what I've read so far, this won't fix the problem either, so I remain skeptical. We'll see. Off hand, I would advise DO NOT BUY A DELL. If a recurring issue like this can't be appropriately addressed by the manufacturer with some sort of recall, the company does not deserve your business. Spend a little more and get a reliable machine.

I have owned many different brands, and kind of took my cue with the Dell from my parents. They are now on their second Dell, and no problems. I too am now on my second Dell. The first I will admit was kind of rocky in the beginning but worked out all the kinks under their warranty. I have never regretted purchasing either one. It was frustrating contacting support as I don't like hanging on the phone while working on a computer, but usually learn something new when I do. So it does make up for that when I have had an issue. Generally when I can figure something out on my own with or without the help of a computer person is a good thing in my book. This one in particular has an Intel Core i7 - 860 processor, 640 GB hard drive, DVD+/-RW Drive, and added at the building process for ordering is a TV tuner with remote control. There are a few other things I did upgrade when I ordered it. I do like the idea of being able to build it with add-ons, only if I know specifics of what I want. For myself I really like the front USB, additional microphone and headphone jacks on the top of the unit. It tends to keep me from tangling up my cords this way. I did purchase an additional DVD drive elsewhere and installed it myself. As I am also software/configuring challenged and can't quite get the hang of the one drive and writing temporary files on the computer, then eventually putting them on a disc. I appreciate them having the financing available as well. The delivery time is great, and well packed. I couldn't be happier with my Dell.

Bought the XPS 8100 core7 a couple months ago.  Everything I was looking for over my old Dell I've had for 9 years.  RIP Windows XP.  Looks like the case may be a little hard to open, but I'll have to deal with that when the time comes.  Very satisifed with this purchase.

I bought this computer in April and I am very satisfied with this computer.  This computer has the latest core processor and the newest technology.  I optimized the computer with the best options for me like the GTX 260 to play games, a bit of memory and processing speed to get me through the daily tasks and my desktop publishing.  This computer has many options to choose from Dell and lots of ports in the back to connect to.  This machine also has a place to set stuff on top with inputs of USB and voice and mic.  This also has a great memory card reader for all your needs. I chose just to go with the 500 GB hard drive to play some games, music and some of my work stuff.  I highly recommend this computer for its features and the options you can choose from Dell to make the best computer you can buy.  Well worth it!

  I have been using computers for a number of years.  After having one that crashed almost monthly, I bought a Dell on my father-in-law's recommendation.  I couldn't have been happier as that Dell lasted for 8 years without crashing and is still going strong with only routine, expected fixes.   So when it came time to get something more up-to-date, I immediately went to dell.com.  The build-your-own section comes with an overwhelming number of choices, but I settled on the4 Studio XPS 8100 desktop computer.  I needed something fast and powerful for the number of weighty programs I need to run in my graphic arts business.  I have been using it now for about 3 months and I couldn't be happier.  I can run all the programs I need to run without hardly any slowdown, surf the net fast, and hook it up to my TV and watch programming without any glitches.     I know there are people out there who have had bad experiences in one way or another with Dell, as I am sure there are with all computer brands, but I, for one, am a happy, contented customer and hope to be far in the future.  Thank you, Dell, for another good product.

I love this computer. It has great graphic and the moniter I got with it even has an HMDI input if I am so inclined. Had one issue where the motherboard went out and had to be replaced but Dell sent one out asap along with a service tech. It was painless and the customer service was great!

My computer is a Dell Studio XPS 8100.  Running Intel Core i7 CPU 2.80 GHz Factory installed 8GB DDR3 RAM with 1TB HDD. This computer is very fast, reliable and able to handle my gaming either online or off. Came factory with SLI Video Cards and 2 wireless pci adapter cards. I have not found any programs or games that have caused this machine to slowdown My Windows Experience Index is rated at 5.9.  I would recommend this machine to anyone who gets online for any reason.  Price is very reasonable and expansion possibilities are endless.
