Dell XPS M1530 Laptop —

We purchase the Dell XPS several years ago for my home business. What a mistake! It was always getting froze up. Could not keep up with me and finally the hard drive went out. We did not even have it a year. Dell wanted to charge us for everything everytime I called them with a problem. I should have kept my big, old HP. It was old but it was not till we bought the Dell did we realize how great it was. I now own another Hewlitt Packard. It's outstanding too. My sister is the electronics manager at Wal Mart and she says that HP is the best. All the customers that come in hate Dell. She said Wal Mart rants and raves abouy carring Dell because it's a big name but they are a piece of garbage. Now I know!

The hard drive is not made by Dell. It's probably made by Seagate /Maxtor, Western Digital, Hitachi or Samsung. When it comes to laptops, neither Dell nor HP make any of their own. They're all made by Clevo, Compal, Quanta or whichever of the big 5 gets the contract for that model. The only big company that makes their own laptops is Lenovo.

Dell gets the most complaints because over the past 10 years they've sold the most PCs (by far). Everyone sells lemons from time-to-time. Sorry you seemed to have ended up with one. My brother and I both have the XPS M1530 and both are still working just fine, now upgraded to Windows 7. Dell is no worse than HP by any measure, and I say that even though my cousin is manages the Staples account for HP.

By the way, did you call the XPS line for customer service? It's a separate line and it goes to Texas rather than India. Short of having a business account, the XPS service line is the best there is for a regular consumer.
