A few flaws, but overall, a mighty fine lightweight laptop

Overall
Rated 5 out of 5

For the last 5+ years I have insisted on using IBM Thinkpads. I had a T60 and T40 (the tablet one) and found them to be extremely well made and very reliable and durable for lots of travel.  However they are priced a bit high and now that they are owned by Lenovo, my loyalty to them has waned.

I recently attempted to upgrade the Lenovo T60 that I have I used continuously for the last 20 months to Vista and put some more memory in it.  Long story for another review, but bottom line, I do not recommend that you do this.   Vista is just not meant to run on machines not built for it.

In any case, I digress (before I even started!) because this review is about the Dell XPS...

Not perfect, but it really does deliver performance.

Overall
Rated 4 out of 5

I really, really wanted to absolutely love this laptop. It pains me to admit that the xps m1330 came with a huge pile of flaws when it was released. From issues with battery chargers, the nvidia graphics card, mother board connection issue to the battery and speakers blowing out, it had its fair share of visits from the computer technician. Luckily, the price I paid with warranty was a steal at the time, but for the headaches this caused I would be absolutely distraught if I didn't have the 3 year warranty. Luckily for me, most the things that have happened to me haven't been a big deal (speakers, battery charger) but the issue of the connection to the charger on the motherboard worries me. ...

Dell XPS 1330; a great machine

Overall
Rated 4 out of 5

I purchased my Dell XPS 1330 over three years ago to replace an aging and dying laptop.  My reason for picking this laptop was that it was portable as it is 13 inches, but still reasonably powerful (exceptional amount of RAM and a dedicated video card).  I was pleasantly surprised when I received this laptop as it came with several unanticipated perks such as in-ear headphones and a sleeve for the laptop.  Unfortunately, it appears as if this laptop is no longer offered by Dell, which can be anticipated as it is several years old.  Furthermore, it would appear that this style of high-end systems with the XPS title is not even offered by Dell anymore.  Over the past several years, this laptop has served me quite well as a college student.  The portability of the laptop made it easy to bring this laptop with me to class for note taking.  The exceptional power ensures that I am still able to enjoy games and high definition videos.

Dell XPS M1330 - A solid option for a portable laptop

Overall
Rated 5 out of 5

By now I've owned my Dell XPS M1330 for over 3 years. It has been a very solid machine, especially considering its size. I use it for gaming as well, and though it can't run Crysis, I play FIFA11 and Assassins Creed on it with no problems (on the lowest, though still good-looking, graphics setting). The keyboard is one of the best I have ever used, with a nice feel and very responsive.

I've had only a few problems with it over the years, and they have all been resolved very quickly and easily by the Dell XPS service team. The XPS warranty is great--they come to your house and replace ANYTHING your laptop needs. They once arrived at my house with new parts ONE DAY after I had called in my problem.

This laptop has served me well, and still does not feel lacking in any way (unless I try to play a new game on a high graphics setting). I would recommend it.

Lemon laptop with faulty hardware

Overall
Rated 1 out of 5

This laptop was a lemon right out of the box. Thank God we bought the warranty.

Within moments of using it we got driver display issues. As an IT professional, I googled the issue and saw this was common with the NVidia video card provided with this laptop; the fan isn't big enough to cool it off, so it overheats and destroys the motherboard.

I called Dell for the first of many, many times.

The first time they had me reinstall the drivers I had already installed. They insisted this would fix it, and I insisted it wouldn't. They said to call back if it didn't work. 5 minutes after getting off the phone, the laptop had a display driver issue and crashed.

The second time I called, they sent...

Good computer

Overall
Rated 5 out of 5

This is a good computer. My husband purchased this laptop through Dell's refurbished program; and, it has been an excellent, dependable computer. The price was right. We bought the 13 inch and it has been extremembly nice for carrying around. As a student, this computer was really nice to have as well. Once again, going from class to class, it was wonderful to have something smaller to carry around. The bad part about the computer is that the battery doesn't last very long. It only comes with a one-year warranty for the battery, but the battery last just past a year (right outside the warranty date...) My husband did not purchase the more expensive graphic card, so some computere games, he cannot play. But, that was just a decision about money. Overall, I would reccommend this computer for anyone--especially someone who is very mobile--like a student or someone who travels a lot for their job.

Just finished a three year tour with my XPS M1330

Overall
Rated 4 out of 5

After a good three years with my XPS M1330, I finally had to retire the poor computer. The battery finally gave out and it was too expensive to get a new one. Other than that, I don't have too many complaints about the computer.

Well, other than the fact that the GPU liked to overheat and break repeatedly. This computer is really prone to overheating. Generally not catastrophically so and I understand that my case of having to replace the GPU twice is a unique case. I'd get the warranty if it's offered to you.

For gaming I was able to run a World of Conflict at the lowest settings and it was quite smooth.

The machine itself is really lightweight. Not in the same class as the superth...

Dell wasn't ready to come out with a ultra-light weight laptop

Overall
Rated 1 out of 5

First, I'll admit that I've always been drawn to dell computers. I've owned four in the past 10 years (2 laptops and 2 desktops), I've always found the customer service (with the best warranty purchased) to be outstanding. Any issues have always been resolved quickly and efficiently. However, I'm sad to report that the M1330 has been a let down in almost everything I expected from the laptop. I upgraded many features and purchased the 3 year next day worldwide service since I was going away to Australia from the USA for a few months. I wanted a high speed (I paid for a better processor, bigger memory and RAM) and light-weight computer. I also upgraded to the longer lasting battery, which was...

Dell 1330: Great until it dies.-And it will. Get a good warranty

Overall
Rated 2 out of 5

Before I had problems with this laptop it was great. It ran fast, and quiet. Unfortunately it also ran pretty hot (as a lot of laptops do). But the issue with this model stems from a design flaw. I assume there isn't proper heat shielding as my motherboard died after a few months. Dell was pretty great about having a tech come to my home and replace it. A few months later, the same thing happened. And about a year after that, it happened again. This appears to be a known flaw to Dell as they extended my warranty for a year. I guess I'll have to pay for a replacement when the warranty is up since it is bound to happen. Also if you use games that utilize the built-in graphics accelerator the laptop will lock up due to the heat and you'll need to re-boot. Its a great laptop if you need something for emails, homework, web browsing or photo viewing/editing. Unfortunately I paid $2000 for a laptop that has the functions of a $500 laptop.

Good laptop when I first got it..

Overall
Rated 3 out of 5

I got this laptop refurbished for $550, which was quite a deal considering that this was selling nearly $1000 for brand new in 2007/2008. I bought this laptop because it had fast processing, good harddrive, blue tooth, camera and an overall modern and sleak design. Not to mention that it weighed 5lb which had a 12 cell battery. One issue that I had was that it made a squeeking sound which was annoying. Lots of dell users experienced this problem and Dell never fixed it. I had a technician come 3x to fix the motherboard or whatever but it didnt work. Also, the hard disk failed at me and I had to get that replaced as well

Pros:Fast, good hard disk space, blue tooth that works, decent camera, it can run very basic games like Warcraft 3, counter-strike, responsive Dell customer service

Cons:

Vista, laptop overheats, fingerprint feature was garbage, components break, battery life even with 12 cell is kinda weak (5/6 hrs)

Info About the Dell XPS M1330 Notebook PC.

Overall
Rated 3 out of 5

When it comes to big things in small packages, the Dell XPS M1330 is a prime choice. This super slim, high powered notebook is packed with style whose stature is far outweighed by the power within. I like the fact that it has a good media center. The problem with it, is that the speakers mess up when they are up loud. They are thin and have a personal style. One thing you can't beat is the price. The battery life is great. Something that might hurt about this labtop, it that it only has two usb ports.Windows Vista Ultimate has been installed including Home Premium to Business editions. It even has a few extras like Windows DreamScene. Have you seen the screen? The screen size of 13.3 in., b...

Very light and sophisticated!

Overall
Rated 4 out of 5

I received this computer from my father after my younger sister had already used it for a year. I am proud to say that it is like a brand new computer! It runs incredibly fast, and has more room on it than any computer I have owned in the past. I also really like how small and compact it is.

I use my lap top in my living room, and I am often picking it up while I have my fifteen pound son in my other hand, so it is nice to not have to lift a really heavy computer.

I do have to add though, that right after I got it, the computer crashed, and I had to restart the system with its original factory settings. That was not a problem for me though, since I did not have anything stored on thi...

I love my dell XPS 1330 laptop

Overall
Rated 5 out of 5

I bought the Dell XPS 1330 laptop because I am taking classes online.  I love the keyboard.  It is comfortable and easy to type.  It is easy to navigate and to find what I need.  This laptop runs a lot faster than my other computer and I am getting work done in less than half the time.  Having a laptop, also allows me to bring my schoolwork with me to other parts of the house.  This has been a life saver having two children to chase around.  They feel like I am spending time with them and I am getting work done.  My children, ages 5 and 7, also find using the laptop easy.  They figured it out the first time they used the computer and I only h...

Your 'average' laptop; has good point, but bad ones, too.

Overall
Rated 3 out of 5

When my 'old'  Dell Inspiron decided to bite the dust, there was only one place that I wanted to purchase a new laptop from since I've had a good run with the Dell brand.  The Inspiron was my first laptop, and it worked great - right up until the point when the battery died!  It would seem that laptops have this known, but rarely mentioned, problem with leaving the computer itself plugged in; if the laptop is not charging, it shouldn't be left with the adaptor plugged into it, lest the battery dies in half of the life span it supposed to last.  I had paid extra for the extended life battery, and being let down with the learning experience, I figured that I had, in effect,...
