Dell Vostro 1520 Works for Me

4

The Dell Vostro 1520 has proved to be a good choice for me and my first Notebook experience.  Being somewhat technically challenged I have still been able to navigate the laptop with a good amount of success.  I am pleased with the screen size and clarity and find it easy to read.  It moves around the homefront easily for me and follows me to work.  I have used the notebook many hours a day for over a year now and have had no trouble or issues.  The battery seems to hold an adequate charge and I have had plenty of storage.  I wish that my package had come with more software, but know that it can be added for a price.  Because I often travel to and from work on foot I would have really liked to see the notebook more compact and lighter, but it is doable.  Overall I am very happy with the pc and would definately buy it again.  Funny thing, my 4 year grandson can navigate the laptop quick well!

Love my new laptop!

5

I have only had this laptop for a week, and I am already in love with it! I am using my husband's "old" work computer, as he received a new one. I was previously using an ancient laptop that was extremely slow and had a horrible wireless connection. It also had very little battery life, so I was stuck using a power cord with it. It made it so hard to do my part time job around the house. With this new laptop, I can travel around the house and the battery lasts for about 2.5 hours before I need to charge it again. I love how fast this Dell laptop is too. Opening any program opens in seconds, and there are no delays and waiting for files and programs to load. I love that the screen is wider and I can see all of a website or email. I think this Dell laptop is very easy to use, and it seems quite durable, which is handy around my two year old. I don't like that there is not a HDMI output, but I will deal with it!

I'm satisfied

4

I bought this dell Vostro about a year ago and it has worked excellently fine. the only issue i've had was a funny cracking noise from the fan under the laptop 8 months after buying it. It was making irritating noise whenever the laptop was on but I called it in and with my warranty still alive they had me send my laptop in to them and withing a week I got my laptop back with the fan changed and no more noise since then. Their customer service is verygood when it comes to stuffs like this which was one big reason I buy dell products. Excellent warranty coverage. One con with this laptop is the lack of HDMI port, I actually forgot to check that before buying but I guess I can use a VGA port if necessary.

Dell VOSTRO 1520 is worth the price

Made-to-order (as far as pre-installed software necessary for my business) and it took about a month from sales ticket to arrival. (If you order the off-the-shelf version, it would likely arrive much sooner.) Has 17" (standard) screen and comes with the Win 7 OS; mine is Prof 32-bit but it can be customized to fit your needs, i.e. Home, 64-bit, etc.  After a month now, am STILL discovering new things to do with it: split screens; rotating (slideshow) background pictures, etc.  Standard QWERTY - but the one button to hit at the bottom right, to immediately shrink ALL windows and show the desktop, is one SWEEt feature. Battery life is a SOLID 3+ hours on a charge.  Screen display is truly sharp. Hitting WIN + F8 lets you immediately open up second monitor display.  Wireless connectivity is easier with this laptop than with previous ones I've owned: am able to get a signal most anywhere I've been so far.  Truly customizable as far as colors, window fonts, recently used programs, etc. This one is on the HEAVY side as far as weight - a good 3lbs; if you're looking for thin and lightweight, this one is NOT for you.  (It loses the 5th star because of this: after an hour of lugging it around on your shoulder, you're going to FEEL it - trust me.). The GREAT news is that this is one tough machine - have dropped it a few times and no worries.  Comes standard with the slots for ALL the SD and MicroSD cards, four (4) USB ports, DVD + and - R/RW drive, and back serial port for separate monitor. I know everyone complains about Dell's customer service, but, honestly, had NO problems with that whatsoever.  They had a question as which PDF software I was wanting - and called me about it.  They sent the email when it would be shipped - including the link to UPS to track its shipping progress. Bottom line: if you just need a laptop for schoolwork, this probably isn't for you; if you need, however, one that can easily handle presentations, multiple heavy-duty tasks, conference calling, graphics, etc., then this is a good bet.

Does it meet the price versus quality

3

Well the Dell Vostro is an upscale laptop made with quality options to the pc user.  but does it meet the price criteria of acquiring one?  Dell is more expensive sometimes the HP and Gateway.  Both they offer great option on laptop use with less money spend. Dell  advertises and promotes the product with high price.  Some features are found elsewhere with less money.  you paying for status symbol at Dell and you paying a price.  besides that the computer looks and feels nice, colors are included in the package and all the extras are there and/or can be preinstalled when you order them   I like it and recommended to all who willing to pay for it.

Really great product.

The Dell Vostro 1520 is a great product that is built to last. It's more directed towards business users, but students can get by with this machine as well. The computer is also more for the power user on the go. It comes with a powerful Core 2 Duo processor, but lacks in the graphics department. As for aesthetics, the computer looks pretty nice, although, it does have a glossy finish on the top that might defer some people from buying it.

This Dell 1520 laptop is the absolute best toughest computer!

5

I bought my Dell 1520 laptop in the fall of 2007.  It has been everything I needed for college in a computer.  It is also extremely tough!  It is the Timex watch of computers!  "It takes a licking and keeps on ticking!"  It has been whipped to the ground from a bar height table, fallen out of a lifted pick up truck, and knocked off of the kitchen table and it STILL works.  I LOVE my Dell, and would recommend to anyone who wants a good quality well made computer.

horrible

1

this was a waste of my money. i mean a huge problem with dell laptops is the battery life is not going to last you a long time. less than a year for me and my battery would only run for 30minutes fully charged. also after one year the laptop only ran if it was plugged into charger. at 1.5 years, it was fully burned out, didnt charge anymore. also the fan inside broke down after half a year and the laptop would over heat quickly and then it would power surge. at 1.5year i had to keep the laptop placed on something very cold or it would over heat instantly. not to mention it would run slow because of all the viruses, spyware, and adware, and malware. too many headache. no one likes head aches.

Dell is like the Cadillac of computers

This is my first Dell computer and I don't know what took me so long to get on the band wagon.  I am very impressed with the sound quality and the speed of the processor.  The computer that my new Dell had replaced needed some upgrades to be able to handle my computing needs from the start but my Dell was readyto go out of the box.
