Dell Vostro 1500 Laptop Review Summary

The sub-$1000 notebook computer is finally here to stay and Dell’s new Vostro line geared towards Small Business users is leading the way. And one of the notebooks in that line is the Dell Vostro 1500 series notebooks all of which have a base price of well under $1000. Our community of portable computer users thinks Dell has a hit on its corporate hands with the Vostro 1500 series; one reviewer praised it saying: "By customizing the base model, I was able to get the 2ghz (T7250) processor, with an NVIDIA 8400 video card for around $800.00." Dell fitted the stylishly thin Vostro 1500 with a 15.4” TFT active matrix wide-screen display, your choice of powerful Intel Celeron or Core 2 Duo processors, up to 2GB (shared) DDR2 Dual-channel RAM, wireless LAN, and (4) USB 2.0 ports. And our reviewers overwhelmingly love their Vostro’s 1500’s lauding the notebooks no-frills approach to computing, while still delivering the power they need to conduct business on the road. Read what our reviews have to say about the matt black Dell Vostro 1500 series.

After two years on our current laptops it was time to upgrade. My goal was to find a replacement system that could not only run routine office applications, but had some gaming capability. My minimum specifications were a dual core processor, a dedicated video card, and to keep the price under $1,000.00.

The Dell Vostro easily met every requirement. By customizing the base model, I was able to get the 2ghz (T7250) processor, with an NVIDIA 8400 video card for around $800.00. I could have opted for a faster processor with an Nvidia 8600 card and still came in under a thousand.

The system is very...

I recently needed to replace a desktop computer that was about 8 years old.  I called Dell to ask about their new Vostro line of laptops as I routinely meet my clients at their home or office and it's nice for mobile computing.  I also travel frequently so it allows me to stay in touch on the road.

Dell advised that the Vostro line was created for the small business owner.  It comes complete with 4 USB ports, I believe a firewire connection, built in ethernet connect, wi-fi and was easily upgradeable to include added memory and a wireless N card.  In short, it allows for on-the-go computing...

Dell Vostro 1500 provides the latest technology with a lot of nice hardware upgrades; such as different processor options, 1 or 2 GB RAM, bluetooth, integrated webcam options, higher version video cards, DVD writer, etc. While providing all these upgrades the price does not go up too much. Even with topping all upgrades one can have this computer at around $800 to $900. The same upgrades would cost about twice as much if the computer is a Mac or a Thinkpad. Of course there is catch I believe and that is durability. Despite that black color is an elegant color, which is a difference between the... review »

As a desktop replacement with excellent speed and the ability to utilize a 19" monitor, capture video through the onboard firewire and write to DVD, plus enjoying the option of either XP or Vista and my choice of partitioning options, I had few choices than to choose a Dell. I specifically wanted XP. I did upgrade the processor to T7100, the memory to 2GB and the video to 8600.
Standard wireless has good range.
I'm not a gamer, so I can't comment there.
I'm very happy with this machine. The price was under $1200.

I currently own a Dell Vostro 1500 with a Intel Duo Core T8100, 3 GBs of RAM, 128 MB Dedicated graphics, and a 160 GB hard drive, running on Windows Vista Home Premium and all I can say is I absolutely love it.  I've heard plently of people complain about Vista in general and have spent my fair share of time swearing at the version of Basic on my desktop, however, Vista Premium on the Vostro flat out runs beautifully.  Dell came up with a great idea when it opened its small and medium business line and started to make Vostros.

I own and operate a small freelance photography service, and was...

We finally gave in and purchased a laptop to replace our old desktop that was on it's last leg.    The desktop was running so slowly I thought we were back on a dial-up service again.   I was also transferring files between my house and a friend's that I was doing some work for.   Now, with the laptop, I can bring it with me - so much easier and stress-free.

I am technically challenged and get the vapors even thinking about having to shop for anything technical.      My husband found the Dell Vostro 1510 for me.    I'm very happy with the size.    The screen is big enough...

What can I say about this machine that has not already been said?  These are the toughest, most reliable computers in the Dell line-up.  While this particular model is no longer available ( had for over a year now), it is still very current from a technological perspective and I suspect that the replacement models are just as useable.

The first thing I noticed was the Duo Core processor was able to handle several tasks at once with great ease.  I was editing video and visiting social networking sites while playing music on the Windows Media Player and all the while McAfee Security Center...

After 18 months, I can easily recommend this laptop. The graphics are clear, keyboard is a good size (though it intermittently has a problem with "lag" that Dell can't seem to figure out), the built-in Dell pre-N wireless card has performed consistently (though, I would suggest you get the optional Intel card instead to ensure connectivity accross the board), and overall response is good.

My machine has a 1.8gHZ Dual Core processor and I have upgraded it to 4GB of RAM (2GB worked well, but I am heavy on machines). I got the 512MB dedicated VRAM -- and connect it to projectors for presentations...

i have been using my Dell Vostro 1500 for a couple of years now. I use it for home and business use. I run a small non-profit and have used it with Quickbooks for our financials as well as for all microsoft word and microsoft excel documents. This laptop holds everything related to my non-profit. I also use it at home, my children use it frequently for everything from school work, computer games, DVD viewing etc... It has held up well. I wasn't real impressed with the battery life on this, did not last as long as I had expected. I carry it with me everywhere and must say that it is a little on...

What more could you want - well probably a lot if you are a heavy gamer, but otherwise this is basically the perfect package.  Get a much or as little as you want.

I purchase and reccomend a lot of pc's and computer products.  I am somewhat the local guru and the vostro is my newest favorite flavor.  I had to really dig to find a new pc/laptop that could ordered with xp or xp pro - Vostro was my solution. Vista has so many problems I was almost reluctant to even purchase a PC or any type if it shipped pre-installed.

Plus with vostro I didn't have to spend hours removing unwanted trials and...

I use the Dell Vostro 1500 laptop for everything from web surfing to running statistics programs (in R).  It runs everything successfully, even when multiple people are logged in. The screen is large enough to read and the keyboard is easy to use.

It can be a bit hot; I recommend using a laptop cooler to keep your lap (and the computer) cool.  Also, the hibernate and stand by functions can be a bit quirky - it take a few seconds and it will not complete if you close the lid of the laptop before it is done.

HI guys,

we ve recently purchased DELL vostro 1510 with vista as OS and intel core 2 duo.
We ve no option left but vista to opt in dell as an OS but it is ok.
we opted for finger print reader tat makes our work much easier.
webcam quality is excellent. It comes with a decent price.
we were in a dailemma bet HP and Dell but finally we selected Dell as it is a big name for note books.

The only drawback is its a bit heavy in weight.

Over all its worth for tat price.

I have had this laptop for a little over a month and  have been very satisfied. I was able to get this on a special sale and frankly, it has specifications I found on other laptops for a much larger price.  I find the battery life is exceptionally good.  I was a little leary of the Vista operating system since so many people had complaints but I have had no problems whatsoever and I use this laptop for several hours every day for business and personal use.

I bought this computer because after 15 years from graduating high school, I decided that it was time that I went to college.  I go to the University of Phoenix; online school and needed something to take with me if I was away from home and needed to submit my homework ontime.  My little laptop now contains all of my homework assignments and I just love carrying it around.
