Dell Vostro 1500 Laptop —
As a desktop replacement with excellent speed and the ability to utilize a 19" monitor, capture video through the onboard firewire and write to DVD, plus enjoying the option of either XP or Vista and my choice of partitioning options, I had few choices than to choose a Dell. I specifically wanted XP. I did upgrade the processor to T7100, the memory to 2GB and the video to 8600.Standard wireless has good range.
I'm not a gamer, so I can't comment there.
I'm very happy with this machine. The price was under $1200.
