First off, I was told before I ever bought this laptop that it ran hott... so it is partially MY fault. The speed, build quality, screen, backlit keyboard, webcam, etc. are great, but it does run very hotttttt. It is almost impossible to sit this thing on your lap for longer then an hour. The palm rest and mouse pad also get very, very hott. I have a High Definition screen and Blu Ray on mine which are deffinite pluses. I can be on an airplane and watch High Definintion movies, which is something I have never had before. The austhetics of the laptop are also hands down one of the best in teh market. The glossy finish with the leather and chrome accents really dress the laptop up. I also opted in for the extendad battery so I can run solid for 4-5 hours (using both batteries) which is great for long trips. Windows 7 is also great on this machine. Much better then Windows XP. If you are looking for a high end, video aditing and gaming capable PC... this is it. I just wish they would have been anble to find some way to make it run cooler.

Dell is a great computer company. They make very good computers and best of all they stand behind there products. They are the only company I will purchase my families computers from. We currently own 4 of there computers. My Studio computer has had very little wrong with it and that is good considering I spend about 12 hours a day on it. The best thing about them is the service tho for a little extra you can get a warranty that gets the tech to come to your home to repair it. The repair it if possible in your own home and most repairs are possible in home. The only issue I have had is it seems to run a little warm but then again do not think there meant to work as long as I do each day. After 5 years the only other issue has been a few keys that seem to stick and the mouse button but then again I am a little tough on it and they always replace it no questions asked and repairs usually take place within 3 days of me calling in. I would rate them super service..

I purchased the Studio XPS 1640 equipped with the RGB-LED display, Blu-ray player combo drive. and in the beautiful black/leather finish. The first unit I received developed a stuck pixel on the display, but Dell made good and replaced the entire laptop with a new one as they should have considering the price point of this model. The replacement is flawless and a strong performer and the display is gorgeous. I use the Studio XPS 16 mostly for entertainment, i.e. movies, Media Center TV watching and general surfing. One thing to note is the standard 6 cell battery is barely adequate and provides very little "cord-free" time, especially under processor-intensive use (even with power-saving modes active). I purchased an additional 9 cell battery and that gives plenty of battery time.Also, the LED display, while beautiful, is VERY bright, even at the lowest settings.Have had no problems with Vista whatsoever, but will be upgrading to Windows 7 in October anyway. I find it to be very quiet, even when it's been running for hours and there's very low fan noise but I use a Recom cooldesk professional cooler which I think is essential for any laptop when it's running full tilt.There's quite a lot of reflection from the screen in daylight but that's pretty normal for laptops I've used.The illuminated keyboard is superb. I use it to run midi/audio backing tracks at gigs and I've been able to get rid of the USB 'reading' light I used to use to see the keyboard.The blu-ray drive is great as I have an extensive blu-ray collection and I view them with Dell PowerDVD software.

this is my second purchase of a laptop from dell . my first was delivered by dhl and a rough time getting it glad to see they changed companies. my studio 16 is red with leather very nice screen is bigger really love it.purchased it with the built in verizon wirless broadband love it although be careful of the plans they offer you . i was able to tranfer my old account to the new lap top so now i have unlimited usage .  The key board is great with the light behind it and all features are easy to find.It was delivered sooner than promised what a surpise that was. this is my first computer with a camera and although i havent used it i will soon.  The logitech mouse i purchased with it was very easy to install and works great with it.  The one thing really different from my other laptop was the dvd/cd player you just slide it in and press button to eject no door to mess with. Have had several people try it out and every one loves it.
