Dell XPS M1210: The Little Engine That Could Go On

5

If you're into heavy gaming, you can still run something like Team Fortress 2 on low and it would work adequately. Other than that, I would just use this laptop as an everyday tool as it performs great otherwise. The Dell XPS M1201 has a DVD burner, 4 USB ports, and a VGA port (to hook up t.o the tv). Ease of Use As a basic type looking laptop with no physical bells and whistles, it is very straightforward to use. It does not have a numeric keypad on its keyboard, so that makes the laptop's width considerably smaller. The buttons are clearly labeled (as well as their secondary functions). Battery Life Although I mainly had it hooked up to the power supply, the laptop does fare well when it's toted between rooms. Support & Service I have no used DELL's support services. Speed/Performance For your basic everyday functions (email, typing, searching), the M1210 works very well. For heavy gaming however, you are better off investing in a much more newer model. Design Not as slim as a certain fruit brand, the M1210 is still thin enough to put into a regular bookbag. It is two toned, a black cover and a silver keyboard. Durability I admit to dropping it once by accident and it still works fine. I have had this laptop for about 5 years before it finally died on me (motherboard problem).

Careful when purchasing a smaller sized computer.

When the XPS machines first came out, I was really interested in getting them for the new graphical elements. As a result, I purchased this computer at a higher price than I would normally pay. It had nice graphical elements, but for what I needed it wasn't much better than the standard computer. For someone who is more into gaming and design, this might be a big difference, but for me, it was pretty standard. The additional cost of the machine was not worth the added features. One of the downsides for me was the size of the screen. It ended up being way too small for extended use, causing eye strain. This is something I would really take into consideration before making a purchase. Ease of Use The product was easy to use. Battery Life The battery life was pretty standard with this machine. Support & Service Dell met expectations with service and support. Speed/Performance The speed was as expected. Design I should have researched more prior to making this purchase. The screen size was way too small for me. Durability Durability of the machine met expectations.

The XPS M1210 Laptop is perfect for anyone that is lloking for a mobile system that can be used for working or surfing the internet.  Its small size makes it easy to carry and move, and the built in wireless adapter allows for easy internet access anywhere that there is a wireless connection available.  The system is also easy to use.

The XPS m1210 is a fast, sturdy, portable powerhouse.

After purchasing my Dell XPS m1210 almost two years ago, I am still very satisfied by its incredibly well-though-out design and usability. I originally decided to purchase this system after deciding that my old (but nice) 15.4-inch HP notebook was a little to cumbersome to carry around with me. As a college student who's pursuing a degree in computer science, I needed a system that was powerful enough to handle everything my computing-intensive could handle, while being able to fit it into my bookbag ALONG WITH the rest of my books! The m1210 model I purchased came with 2GB of memory, a 100GB hard drive, an intel core 2 duo (centrino) 1.83 GHz processor. I was also fortunate enough to have two batteries with it--a standard 6-cell battery and an extended 9-cell battery. After nearly two years, I'm still getting close to three hours of life on the standard battery, and nearly 5 hours on the extended battery! Cosmetically, this is one of the best-designs I've seen in a laptop. While it's not obnoxiously stylish, it looks very nice. More importantly, my XPS has been through some very tough environments (Imagine 20 pounds of books bouncing around on top of your laptop in a bag that gets tossed around a lot. Oops). Despite everything I've thrown at it, there are no broken hinges, no display issues, and no malfunctioning hardware. In a nutshell, this is one of the highest-quality sub-13" notebooks ever made. I'd recommend it to anyone who doesn't need a laptop that's bigger than their desk!

Dell XPS M1210

3

I have owned the Dell M1210 XPS since May 2007. At the time it was relatively new on the market. I have continued to use it quite extensively until very recently. It is one of the more portable laptops that I have been able to find. While it is not as easy to carry around as some of the smaller netbooks today, it does have significantly more power and function than some of the netbooks on the market today. One of the major drawbacks of the M1210 is the battery. I would highly reccommend getting the after market 9-cell battery, that provides siginificantly increased battery life, up to 4-5 hours, depending on what you are doing at the time. Another drawback is the RAM. With today's more modern operating systems, it really cannot keep up with all the advances in computer programming. Within a few years, the Dell XPS M1210 will be completely obsolete. Hence the reason why I have stopped using it. Besides that, if you are looking for something low cost, that you using without requiring a lot of bells and whistles, this might be for you, but i would reccommend looking at other options.

I have owned several Dell laptops and PC over a span of 20+ yrs. I got hooked on the Dell when my company purchased them for the entire staff. I have never been disappointed. My XPS M1210 travels everywhere with me. It performs well, fast, easy to set up in Airports, car or Wi Fi Hot Spots. I love, love my Dell!

Excellent in all respects--performance & service support superb!

The Dell XPS M1530 has been an excellent laptop computer.  As a doctoral student in history, my primary concerns were less with video performance and gaming and more focused on data storage space and office development tools such as powerpoint, word, and the like.  Dell's custom laptop construction allowed me to individualize my computer to meet my specific needs, anticipated and unanticipated.  Even my video performance, which I admittedly skimped on to maximize storage, has exceeded my expectations.  Especially beneficial for me, an self proclaimed technical amateur, Dell built-in service and support system is exemplary.  The automatic updates feature has maintained my computer at the latest performance level, including updates to my system protection software, and has prevented many potentially debilitative--not to mention annoying--performance issues from arising.  I've found the M1530 to be quite useful in several applications and am continually discovering new ways to utilize its capabilities.

I bought the xps 1210 a little over 2 yrs now and it has been a great laptop. The only issue I have is that the keyboard is cheaply made and the keys can fall off. Overall the xps series has been a great looking machines compared to others. Its light, portable and one mean machine.

Dell XPS M1210 - Not worth the cost

3

Dell XPS M1210 was good to start with portable compact laptop. But its price tag is not its worth. It is bit bulkier than counterparts in similar category. With 2gb of RAM and Windows Vista home premium its performance is not upto the mark. Its probably a bad strategy of Microsoft to force through Windows Vista to home users, which doesnt have much of takers. The screen normally burns out in 2 yrs time frame. The video graphic adapter (VGA) card which bundles comes doesnt offers a good output. Also, since its in build in board ita hrad to replace it. Mine laptop one day suddenly died. It didnt came up. After doing POST non power test and based on the LED error code display combinations, it seemed up it was video card error. Now, since the card is on board I am screwed. I cant do anything without changing the mother board. Had it been bit lighter, it would have been nice. Well at the same cost other would have been better
