Optiplex 780 - good all around business computer

4

Continuing the evolution of the midlevel series, the Optiplex 780 is the successor to the Optiplex 760.  Key Features: - The proven technology of the Intel Pentium Dual Core, Core 2 Duo, and Core 2 Quad processors - 32 and 64 bit versions of Windows 7 Home Premium, Professional, and Ultimate Editions (Professional and Ultimate also include downgrade option to XP Professional) - Standard 3 year hardware warranty with add-on options of up to 5 years of hardware warranty, ProSupport and Complete Care Accidental Damage Unlike previous offerings of the Optiplex, an optical drive is no longer standard so be sure to check this option if you will need to install software from a CD or DVD and don't want to carry around a portable USB optical drive.  Also, Dell has replaced the standard replacement media with a built-in backup program which will allow you to create a one-time system restore and diagnostic disk.  The utility hard drive partition is still included for quicker running of diagnostics.  You can still order replacement media, but it must be done at point of sale.   The Optiplex 780 is an able competitor in the business desktop world against similar offerings from HP and Lenovo, especially with available remote management features from Intel, the option of solid state hard drives, and Energy Star 5.0 settings built in.

Use it for work--would buy it for home!

I have been using the Dell OptiPlex 780 at work for a while now.  I have not had a single problem with it.  I find that the processor runs quickly, even with multiple applications running.  I haven't had a single crash, either.  I work as an executive assistant, so I often have several programs open as I juggle tasks.  Everything always works fine with this computer.  I can accomplish all of the work that I need to, without a single worry about my computer's performance.  If you pair this computer with a wide-screen monitor, and you have got a machine that can do most anything you want it to.  I have a laptop at home, but if or when I would want to buy a desktop, I would buy the OptiPlex 780 from Dell.  Dell is a good company that makes quality computers.  I think that it is a great machine.  I would recommend this computer to anybody who wants a desktop for work or home that performs well and gets the job done.

this computer is great as you can see it have a pretty fast processor and the latest set of RAM memory's. I would recommend anyone to buy this computer at  any cost. With an Intel Core 2 Duo processor you will get performance-rich technologies, including up to 6MB of shared L2 cache, up to 1333 MHz Front Side Bus, plus these additional Intel® technologies built in

Fine Small Form PC for business, but not Gamer/Entertainer

4

The Dell Optiplex GX780 is the current Small Form Factor computer from Dell used within the corporation for which I work.  It is by default an Intel Core2Duo 3.0 and is ample for pretty much any business need.  There is plenty of storage for general work usage (although ours is only 160gig in most cases) and performance with 4Gigs of memory is outstanding.  We've had some with 2 gigs and that is ample for business usage.  Comparing it directly to GX760's which we received last year (with 2Gig memory by default) there is a noticeable improvement going to the DDR3 architecture for memory and the board, etc., being noticeable faster. The shortcomings are of course the configuration---if you're going to add drives and accessories there's not much room and the power supply to those accessories is proprietary making it difficult to find pieces that work well if you're a bargain hunter or want multiple options---and the video chipset.  It uses shared memory and it's not the greatest chip.  I would want a better card for streaming any video and/or gaming and then of course you're limited to those devices that are SFF in design.  Prior models of Dell GX Optiplex used the cheapy capacitors ...even the 745 and possibly some 760 and 755 models.  That means there's a pretty good chance the 780 uses them too, but since Dell has been in a lawsuit regarding using these capacitors then maybe they learned their lessons on this motherboard.  (I have not yet looked to see which manufacturer is generally used and they do sometimes change during a production run due to changes in price/contracts.)  However, other companies used these cheaper capacitors and so Dell is not entirely to blame.  The result is a good 3 year warranty from them is nearly necessary and you will want to open up and blow out dust regularly and ensure as cool a tempurature available inside as possible (DO NOT HOUSE IN A CABINET!) For the low price I would definitely consider this PC for home and business but not for much more then plunking away at work/email/mild browsing and document authoring.  Anything else requires a bigger chassis for modification and expansion as well as longevity.

I love this Dell.  I also love Dell computers in general.  This is actually the third computer that I have purchased and have looked around at others, but always come back to Dell.  Never had any trouble with them and they are dependable.  This  one replaces one that is 7 years old so it has been time for a while.  That's what i like aout a Dell though, is that they last for a long time.   My son also owns a Dell and he does gaming and loves it also.  The graphics are great. And the speed.   What can I say?  It's great. I've never had a bad experience with it and customer service is great.

The Dell Optiplex 780 desktop computer performs like a champ!

5

I am a very demanding general business computer user. I have 15+ windows open at any given time with 5+ applications running. I use my computer 10 hours a day.  I also insist on using two full size monitors.  For the last year  I have been using the Dell Optiplex 755 mini tower and was very happy with it.  However, after upgrading to Windows 7 on my Lenovo Thinkpad, I decided it was time to do the same with my desktop.  So far so good.  This unit is a big bigger, but it runs like a champ.  I really like the new Dell monitors as well.  They have a sleeker look to them and the picture is quite vibrant. I will report back any issues I am having, but thought I would report in with a day one impression which is quite good at this point.

I was not an informed computer user at all before I purchased from Dell.  I have never had a problem and now consider myself an almost expert user.  It was very user friendly and we are now friends.

The **Dell OPTI780 MT E8400 3.0G 2GB 160GBSYSTDVDRW W7XP 3YR NBD (464-3702) PC Desktop **is one of the, if not the best desktops I've ever used. I have found no problems so far, after more than a year of use. I have recommended this specific desktop to all of my friends and family and so far they use it too.
