Continuing the evolution of the midlevel series, the Optiplex 780 is the successor to the Optiplex 760. Key Features: - The proven technology of the Intel Pentium Dual Core, Core 2 Duo, and Core 2 Quad processors - 32 and 64 bit versions of Windows 7 Home Premium, Professional, and Ultimate Editions (Professional and Ultimate also include downgrade option to XP Professional) - Standard 3 year hardware warranty with add-on options of up to 5 years of hardware warranty, ProSupport and Complete Care Accidental Damage Unlike previous offerings of the Optiplex, an optical drive is no longer standard so be sure to check this option if you will need to install software from a CD or DVD and don't want to carry around a portable USB optical drive. Also, Dell has replaced the standard replacement media with a built-in backup program which will allow you to create a one-time system restore and diagnostic disk. The utility hard drive partition is still included for quicker running of diagnostics. You can still order replacement media, but it must be done at point of sale. The Optiplex 780 is an able competitor in the business desktop world against similar offerings from HP and Lenovo, especially with available remote management features from Intel, the option of solid state hard drives, and Energy Star 5.0 settings built in.
