VERY TOUGH, DURABLE, AND RELIABLE!!! I LOVE MY E5400!!!!

5

I bought my Latitude E5400 almost 3.5 years ago and thi s thing is a beast. I upgraded the ram to 4gb and have the core 2 duo cpu. This the most durable, reliable laptops I've ever had. I use it everyday use a lot of cpu-intensive programs without issue. I really like the design of the laptop because it doesn't show wear and tear nearly as bad as other laptops. I work for an e-waste facility so i see laptops all day long and see how others get worn out in certain spots and where they tend to breakdown. The E5400 is very well built, and uses quality parts. It might not be the flashiest of laptops, but it certainly gets the job done. I was extremely motivated to write this review after a spilled water on it last night. It immediately shut off and so I went and unscrewed the back covers and took the ram out and allowed it to dry overnight. I thought it might be toast, but sure enough, it powered on this morning and is working like a charm as I now type this. This thing is a true beast and will withstand the tougher computer users out there without any issues. My next laptop will most likely be a newer latitude but I still have lots of use out of this one left.

Great laptop!

3

I had to purchase this laptop for my school because I was entering the college's College of Business so at first I was a little unhappy that I had to spend so much money on this laptop for its specifications. However, after a year of use the little thing is still working like a charm and I have experienced no problems on it so far. I have upgraded the operating system to Windows 7 since I purchased it through my school. The keyboard is excellent and is able to keep up with my typing speed just fine. Though one thing I would have liked is the addition of a dedicated numerical pad instead of using the 1 through 0 on the top row of the keyboard for numerical data entry. As an accounting major typing without a dedicated numerical pad can be a little slow and cumbersome. As a computer that I purchased primarily for school work the system performs nicely on the video games that I have tried on it, including Lord of the Rings Online and World of Warcraft. It has also played high def video outputted to my television without a hiccup.

Best laptop ever

I always buy dells even though you hear people complain about them enough i have never had a single problem so when it came time to buying a laptop i knew where i was going to get it from. I checked out a lot of places and a lot of reviews and when it came time to buying i went with the Latitude E5400 and i even got a 20% coupon which made it that much better. The first thing i noticed when using it was how comfortable the keyboard was it wasn't awkward like a lot of other laptop i have used before. It is a very efficient system that can run multiple programs at a time without much problems which is good for me sense i do not have much patience. It also has a very sleek look which i like, with an awesome screen. It has a battery power that is shockingly good because in most laptops i have had they needed to be pampered with their battery power. It has 4 usb ports which is an important feature because i can power up my phone and ipod at the same time.

Disappointed in the performance

I am very grateful to have had the opportunity to try out the Dell Latitude E5400 Notebook PC before I made a decision to purchase it! My school was awarded a number of the Dell Latitude E5400 Notebook PCs as a part of a technology grant, and my department had first dibs on them - we actually had 4 carts of 15 Dell Latitude E5400 Notebook PCs designated to us. Before these, we had regular sized Dell laptops. The Dell Latitude E5400 Notebook PCs ended up being very slow to boot up and the battery life was so short, so I constantly had students saving their work so they would not use it. The Dell Latitude E5400 Notebook PCs also were a little more flimsy and not as sturdy as the regular sized laptops. It was not conducive to try to open multiple windows or programs for the Dell Latitude E5400 Notebook PC because the whole computer would freeze and you had to reboot it. The Dell Latitude E5400 Notebook PC was very much of a disappointment to me as well as my students, who preferred to use the bulky laptops as a result of their experiences with the Dell Latitude E5400 Notebook PC. It was also hard to keep the cursor from jumping all over the place.

love my Dell!

5

***I am very pleased with my dell. I was nervous about even purchasing a laptop because they are so expensive and seem to break easily from everything I have heard and Dell hasn't exactly had a great reputation with anyone that I know. I have now had my Dell for a year and it is still working excellent, I have had a few problems with it but everything seems to be very easily fixable even for me and I am no computer wiz! I have never had any major problems, anything that has gone wrong I have just looked through the manual and found a solution usually just a simple restore does the trick. It came with every reboot disc it would ever need which I love. It is very simple to use and the color and sound are great. It is just as fast now as it was the day I bought it which I believe is very impressive. The sound is louder than other computers I have used and the start up is extremly fast even a year later. I would give it ten stars if I could, I wouldn't trade it for anything! I did pay a large price for it but I believe it was well worth it!***

E5400 great notebook for the money!

4

This Dell is an excellent notebook with great features. Its fast stable and has a great 9 cell battery with equates to approxametly 3 hrs of life. Ofcourse over time like most electronic batterys they retain memory and deplete so you don't get as many hours and when you first purchase it. Its got an LCD antiglare screen with is great when you spend a lot of time on the computer ofcourse you do need to tweek it a little when you first get it because the light level is set to very low. It is able to run multiple applications at the same time very smoothly and can do a lot of multi-tasking. It boots up very fast and come with 4 usb ports unlike my last dell. So over all this unit isn't bad for the money ofcourse if your a gamer or into video editing and need something with a substantial amount of memory and ram I wouldn't recommended it, but for the normal email, internet, gamer etc. its a great unit.

My new favorite laptop!

4

I got this from my sister for Christmas, and so far I love it. I can take it to work and use it when I want to work in the break room. I think that the computer is really fast, and the design is cool. I have used many Dell brand desktops and laptops before, and I have found that many of there computers don;t last too long. But, I have a strong feeling that this Dell E5400 will last me a long time! I let my children use it to play games, and the games don't lag like they do on my desktop computer. It might be a bit expensive ( I was surprised when my sister told me the price!). But, if you want a computer that will last you a long time, I would buy this. It has never froze on me yet, and I've had it for almost 2 months. The screen is a bit too small, and the keys don't seem too firm. If you use it carefully though, you'll be happy. The light weight of the laptop makes it easy to work in bed. The trackpad is also good.

Love Dell, hate this laptop

When I bought this I was really looking forward to finally having a great, smooth running laptop. Boy was I wrong. From the beginning there were driver issues, camera issues and speaker issues. All of them ended up being driver related, which was not even due to installing the wrong drivers. I followed each step from the first install and after that it was nothing but blue screens, random reboots during important assignments and a mouse that barely responded to the movements that were being made.If you're looking for a great laptop, this isn't it. A good laptop, MAYBE you'll get lucky and the drivers won't backfire and haunt you until you toss it out a window. For it's price, it really isn't worth it. My family and I usually buy alot of desktops/laptops from Dell, but this is by far it's worst. The laptop's design ended up being my only favourite thing it had to offer. It's features were great too, if only I was able to use any of the disk space, even internet without impropper shutdowns.

Adequite Performance at a Solid Price

I received the Dell E5400 Notebook PC from my work to use as both a work and personal laptop if I so desired.  I would consider myself a techie person and pretty knowledgable about most computers.  I initially noticed that the Dell E5400 wasn't necessarily "pretty" to look at. It wasn't by any means ugly but it just doesn't catch your eye like some of the XPSs or Apples.  I do like the Intel Duo Core and found the laptop ot be sufficiently fast for my needs.  It wasn't taxing on the computer's RAM or processer to have 5 or 6 large applications open at once as I often do for work.  ONe of the best features of this laptop is the long battery life.  When I received the computer brand new it wasn't uncommon for the battery to go about 5 hours before needing to be plugged in.  The laptop is pretty heavy for it's size, but I'd like to contribute that to it's duribility.  I would definitely say this computer is great for the "average" user who likes having the mobility of a laptop with the durability and consistancy of a desktop.  I would recommend this computer to somebody who wants a solid computer at a good price.

great build quality

4

First of all, this isn't a notebook for the masses. This is aimed at business people where they can carry around places. Not many places sell it now since it's a pretty old notebook, but if you have chance to buy it, think twice there are other choices to pick from. Even though it's meant for business people, it's still bulky to carry around. If you're looking it for college use, get a netbook. Speed wise, this is average. It can run pretty much all the office suite software you can think so, but don't expect it to be able to play games. Don't expect it to play 1080p video either on youtube, stick to the low resolution or don't even watch it. The build quality is nice though, mine took a lot of beatings over the years, I dropped it, hit it, and spill stuff on it, it still works. It comes with a 9 cell battery and suppose to last up to 6 hours, more like 3 hours in real life. It also comes with a lot of bloatwares so I would reinstall Windows if I were you.
